MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 3

I have to ask - why, if Mweb hosts the Steam servers in Johannesburg and the dota 2 game servers, then why is my access to it throttled? I am, after all, accessing my own ISP's network. Is internal data really that expensive?

Afternoon drsatan1, I had a look at your account and noted that the account is being throttled at the moment.

This will affect your gaming traffic.

I know that, but this implies that your local and international traffic has the same cost? Like I could download 60 GB from Mweb's Steam servers, or from US East, and you'll throttle me just the same, correct?

That seems unfair to me - I would've thought that your network rules reflect the lower infrastructural cost of local traffic versus international traffic.

Throttling will impact your connection.

We throttled the entire connection, which means that all traffic will be affected.

This has nothing to do with local or international traffic, as both are impacted on by throttling.

I think even if the server is on their own network, the traffic from you has to go through the IPC before it goes to local or inter nation, and that is where the major costs for all isps originate.

Well MWEB Guy.

After pulling an all nighter. My speeds on Steam around 3-4AM began to drop again, fluctuating and then by morning they were back to the 200's and right now are still doing so =[ Is there any update on this being looked into at all?

MWEB Guy, could I please have that Google fix you have offered others in here? Getting really tired of snail gmail and searches.

Evening, can you perhaps try something for me.

Please use the Google DNS's (8.8.8.8) and let me know if that helps. (interim measure)

So last night, shortly after 20:00, i tried logging into my 2nd account. But i got sat on connecting. (Was already on my primary account, i have 2 for stupid reasons) so i tried to log an alt on my 2nd account but could not for about 30 minutes, at which point i just called it a day for trying and did our alt raid on my other character.

just an update on the "WoW" situation

Sounds like a WoW issue if your primary account works.

The primary accounted had already connected to the auth server to log me in earlier in the day. Trying to connect from my second account later did not go through.

I assure you. This is a mweb issue.

Hey, Mweb Guy...

Is there any chance you could somehow mark my account as permanently throttled? I've noticed that while my account is throttled, you leave my TCP connections alone, but as soon as my account is not throttled, you run MITM attacks on my TCP connections, inserting reset packets and generally stopping the flow of traffic.

I'm really ****ing tired of having to restart my SSH connections every 30 minutes because they've either been completely killed by you, or because they've been slown down so much that they're unusable even for typing into a shell.

As I said, this problem disappears as soon as my account is throttled, so is there any way you can simply throttle me permanently?

Hi new_in_za2

We speed limited when the account threshold is reached.

Please send me examples of what you are experiencing.

Afternoon nakedhousee, please provide me pings and trace routes to the relevant gaming server.

Fair enough that news servers are shaped during busy times, but a grand speed of 0 KB/s on a Sunday night at 7pm... seriously? I can't believe that the network as that busy at this time. Absolutely pathetic!

Hi qinglung

Nowhere in any of our communication have we guaranteed p2p, torrent etc speeds.

Currently there are many subscribed to MWEB using these services right now and we have had no influx of speed issues relating to it.

Each end user has a different know how of how these services works and speed.
