MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 3

Mweb is really starting to piss me off, for the last week I've been monitoring my speeds and not once have I got my full speed (4Mbps uncapped premium). I've had this same bs for the last 2 months and all they say is its the shaping, 00:00 to 06:00 (which is when I should get full speed) is still shaped hard, I'll be lucky if I get 1.5Mbps. I don't pay R540 a month for this crap! And right now I can't even Google anything just times out.

Do I see a pattern here? Everyone with complaints says the last two months, but no, we as customers dont know WTF we are talking about.

Hi there.
I'm on a business 4meg premium uncapped account and for the past while (not sure if 2 months) my line has been really crap. Browsing can sometimes be hit and miss. Torrents don't move for hours even at night.

So a few days ago I bought some afrihost prepaid and decided to give it a go. And wouldn't you know it, it gives ZERO ISSUES.

Mweb. Sort your crap out, or I'm out. We've been with you since dial up but we will take our business elsewhere.

I've got a feeling this had something to do with telkoms announcement of that ipc price increase/bundle packages and mweb cannot buy enough capacity to support their client base so they have to shape/screw their customers just like afrihost is doing and they're making excuses and not being honest as to why their networks are so horrible or why they're making network changes (afrihost proof of concept networks). Be honest with people and they may be patient with you and not lose their **** when you give them the usual PR bs!

There MUST be a reason why they came 2nd last in the ISP survey. (2nd last, 2 months? Coincidence ?

Anyone else having DSL problems in the Parow area? My router started dropping connection constantly since last night about 9pm.

Hi sticks_3, please PM me your MWEB account details so that I can look into this for you.

Hi jammio, if the Afrihost prepaid package you mentioned is capped, a more flexible shaping policy may be the reason for better performance as opposed to our uncapped package. Please PM me your MWEB account details so that I can look into this for you.

Hi ChrisGeo, I can't see any reported outages for your area - refer to our notice board. I'm not picking up an active connection for your router at the moment. Which lights are shining on your Fon router?

Internet disconnects then broadband light starts flashing for 30s then it reconnects, this has been happening ever few minutes since last night. I have tested this with both mweb and afrihost accounts so its either my line or the exchange.

Spoke to your guys on Twitter. Reference number #1850772.

Thanks; looks like you're struggling with HTTP downloads. Mind if I have monitoring enabled on your account, so that we can check what type of traffic these downloads are recognised as (varies according to website you download from)?

Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 291 / 603

Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/MB]: 127,54 / 950,91

Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 10,1 / 0,0

Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 23,7 / 39,0

SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 26,8 / 34,4

This doesn't seem right.

Or, your router. :) Please restore your Fon routers settings to factory defaults by pressing and holding the reset button for ±10 seconds. NB: best to record your MWEB username and password for after this test. If that shows no resolve, please test a different router if available and let me know how you go.

I will tell you what I told the guys on twitter, I have reported this countless times over the last two months, you have either told me it telkom (when it's not) or its shaping and there's nothing you can do (which is bs because I pay for a 4Mbps line and barely get 1.5). Then you ask for trace route and speed test after trace route and speed test and only tell me that everything is fine. You've already activated monitoring on my account before and nothing came of that. Now I can tell you nothing is connected in the background (netstat confirmes that) and no other devices connected to my router so nothing is sharing my bandwidth. So you can activate the monitoring again but it's going to show you exactly what I'm telling you, don't bother phoning me unless it's someone that can do something about the shaping or actually has the power to "fix" my line. I'm fed up with my complaints falling on deaf ears.

Again, 2 months is the common denominator.

Ok I've now reset the router, put in a new POTS filter at the phone and trimmed some cables.

Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 508 / 2.046

Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/kB]: 505,28 / 738,11

Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12,9 / 0,0

Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 23,3 / 43,5

SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 21,8 / 26,0

Lets hope it stays like this.

Thanks for clarifying. Your frustration is understandable given the circumstances. Previous monitoring results showed some Torrent traffic on your connection. I've requested your monitoring results for the past 24 hours, and will provide feedback as soon as I have an update for you.

This sounds like the Google Services issue which we've found the resolution to a few pages back. Note that not only MWEB is affected.

I'm getting issues with google atm. Gmail is taking ages to load and searches stall or time out. However i think its a separate issue from the download/streaming shaping.
