MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 3

Hi ,

I hope you can help Mwebhelp , which is the best uncapped /unshapped package you have , looking to sign up for a new internet provider . Curious on shapping policies as well, do you offer higher speeds at night for downlaods ?

KInd Regards

Daniel

Hey guys, got a bit of a mystery I need help solving. I have ****ty international routing for gaming. Like I permanently have to use WTFast and other VPN/tunneling software that is inconsistent and expensive.

Here is a traceroute of the problem:

1 <1 ms 1 ms 1 ms myrouter.Home
2 * * * Request timed out.
3 13 ms 12 ms 18 ms 197-84-96-137.cpt.mweb.co.za
4 11 ms 16 ms 19 ms 534.po-channel50.cpt-ipc-1.optinet.net
5 172 ms 173 ms 156 ms bu-ether1.cpt-p-1.optinet.net
6 157 ms 155 ms 164 ms w1-po0-3-5-0.thd-p-2.optinet.net
7 165 ms 160 ms 165 ms be-2-776-thd-up-2.optinet.net
8 158 ms 156 ms 155 ms be-16-776-thd-linx-1.optinet.net
9 198 ms 200 ms 199 ms linx.as6663.net [195.66.224.252]

I live in Cape Town and I have always gotten around 160-170ms in most international online games. My current latency sits around 200-230ms. It's not the end of the world but 90% of my internet use is gaming and I pay every month for a sub-par service. This problem seems to be on Telkom's side (isn't it always lol and I have no idea what to tell them. Every technician I speak just ums or awe's saying that 'the line is testing fine' and 'it's a best effort service'.

My line is perfectly stable and syncs at a good speed - so in Telkom's eyes nothing is wrong. Who do I speak to at Telkom about poor routing? Who even has the power to change it? Do they even care about international service maintenance?

The exchange: linx.as6663.net [195.66.224.252] seems to be the culprit because it jumps from 150ms to 200ms going from the UK to Amsterdam. That's just pain wrong. The jump usually is around +10ms instead of 50-80ms. Is there anything Telkom can do about their node quality with the London exchange? Why can VPN services route better?

I've tried Crystal Web, Mweb, Telkom's ISP, WebAfrica and Afrihost. Nothing can get around Telkom's routing??

Yeah, not sure about international cause it seems to be working fine-ish for me but all my games are disconnecting. Switched accounts and its working fine sooooo mweb is having problems I guess

I'm also having issues with playing any game online. I can't even connect to steam. I also see the battlefield 4 servers hosted by mweb/gameservers is offline.

Hi guys,

I'm not aware of any issues that may have caused this happen.

Please let me know if you are still experiencing the same problems at the moment.

It happened 2 nights in a row now, on both occasions it started around 20:30.

Why is MWEB slowly pushing people away?

Hey there MWEBHelp! I am having problems opening Microsoft Outlook and accessing my MWeb email. I keep being told to enter in the POP3 and SMTP details along with my username and password, which I do, and repeatedly get the above error message.
