MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 3

Hi Schitzo, how many devices were connected to your router when testing? Did you connect to your router via cable or Wifi? Please test again via cable where applicable and contact the provider who manages your DSL line to recreate your port if the same slow speed issue persists thereafter.

Greetings MWEBHelp! I have just one device that's connected via Ethernet cable. I called your support number and had my connection refreshed. That seemed to help.

I've noticed that my line speed drops every day around 1pm-2:45pm and later from 8pm till 1-2am. Do you think my connection is perhaps being throttled or is congestion at the exchange?

If I switched to Fiber would I still experience fluctuations with my line speed?

It may just be exchange congestion; feel free to post your traceroute results to mweb.co.za during and outside of the affected times to confirm.

Hi! I've just had a Telkom techie come over. We went through my ports, filters, router, PC settings and then the exchange. He reset the DSLAM and did a few tests.

With a Telkom Guest account things were perfect. I then switched to my Axxess Prepaid account and things were also pretty good. The MWEB account as you can see was sluggish.

This ONLY happens at the times I mentioned above.

Afternoon Schitzo, when you refer to the other test results being perfect; can you perhaps provide us the results?

Also, is it possible for you to provide me MWEB speed test readings using saix.net?

Hey there MWEB Help. Pardon, I should have specified. What I mean is that I had a download speed of 8.39Mbps and a lower ping of 22.

I've just done the Saix Speed test and received really good results. Mind you this is around the time when my connection is good. As mentioned in previous posts it seems to "reset" itself around this time. Mind you having my connection refreshed works too. Could it possibly me a setting on my router or PC?

Thanks for the update.

Not sure exactly what is causing this.

If possible, can you complete the test using saix when the issue re-occurs?

Also provide me the guest account comparative, as soon as the issue occurs.

You're most welcome. I'm not sure either. I just got off the phone with an MWEB Support agent and he went through a few settings on my PC and router. He suggested I reset my router to the default settings and we went through the setup together. He changed something called the PPPoE.

So far I seem to have my connection speed back to normal however when I try to check things with the Telkom Guest account I get this error message:

This site can’t be reached

www.saix.net took too long to respond.
Try:
Checking the connection
Checking the proxy and the firewall
ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT

I can however switch to my Axxess account which works fine. Thanks for all your help and feedback!

Thank you for the feedback, please do keep let us know if the issue re-occurs.

Have a great evening :)

Ping is just hovering at 200. I'm giving up on sorting this problem, 1 night it is fine and next night it high again.

I'm getting this and I have been experiencing lag all day randomly mostly in gaming (Overwatch and HoTs unplayable) and sometimes the web has been slow. Is this something mweb side or a possible line issue?

Speedtest to CPT showed 150-200+ ping, although the download was fine

There was an outage in my area (Sea Point) on the 1st of October which was blamed on Telkom. I got a SMS on the 7th of October saying the problem in my area has been fixed and while I have a connection again, the speeds are now trash. I have reset my router as the SMS suggested and I am unthrottled.

Ever since then my connection has erratic speed dips where I get 2mb results when doing multiple speed tests. Netflix SA constantly dips to very low quality where as just a few weeks ago it was streaming at high quality constantly.

I have been a customer for over 4 years and the connection has always been really solid with very little issues. Any suggestions MWEB?

Hi

It seems that we have had quiet a few queries on the same issue and it seems isolated to the CT area. We followed up on our side and had no reported network issues. Please advise if your experience has improved.

Thanks

Yep still having similar issues in CT.

It started with the new thresholds on Mweb. Maybe the congestion is building up? My international gaming routing seems to be doing weird stuff past london.

I bothered the Mweb tech guys and I feel like it was such a difficult problem to pinpoint - didn't get anywhere but I appreciate their help over like 2 weeks of talking.

I have the same issue - and also in Cape Town. Have tried to sort it out with the Mweb tech guys over the past 2 weeks with little success.
I also upgraded to a 20 Mb VDSL during that time - and yet, during those times, I am unable to stream a 720p Youtube video. Frustrating.

I have seen an improvement on my side this evening. Getting 20ms ping to cape town speed test and 160ms international. Download speeds seem back to normal now. Thanks

What happened at about midnight last night? Line dropped and would refuse too connect? Working now but was stone dead, CPT and surrounds.

Just tried to do things now, it is extremely slow.
