MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback

I'm not expecting full line speed. I know it doesn't go at full speed during the day, but when it hits 2KBps then you know something is wrong. This has been happening way to often for me to continue paying for a poor service.

I understand, good luck though, finding anything better for a similar price. I tried, and failed.

That's why I didn't want to change. Things have just gotten so poor and unstable and unreliable, that I've had to pay more to get a better service. That is if someone ever decides to reply to my mail so that I can cancel.....

All I can say is pathetic email based support from MWEB.

Sent an email on the 3rd of November saying I'd like to cancel my subscription. Someone replied saying that I need to send the email from my @mweb email address, which I never use. So I send the email with all my info from that email address.
Then the next day I get an email saying that they have forwarded it to the [email protected] email address.

Why not just tell me to send it there, rather than waste a whole day just for them to forward it for me.....

Doesn't make sense....

And it is now the 7th of November already. Still waiting for someone to contact me regarding my cancellation....

I'm just tired of the inconsistent shaping. Was downloading podcasts and a few apps from iTunes the other day. Was going at around 90KBps in work hours. Then after hours, it dropped to 25-30KBps. How does this make any sense? To shape more after hours.....

And I hope they know that I am expecting the cancellation to be from the day that I first contacted them.

I got one of my 2 mweb accounts cancelled last month. It took about 2 weeks to get an acknowledgment response from the cancellation department. They told me that the account I wanted to cancel will be cancelled at the end of last month.

What I did:

I sent an e-mail to [email protected] using the same account I want to cancel. It worked.

I'm quite happy with my 384K uncapped account. it works just perfectly most of the time (Seacom, you suck).

Maybe there's something wrong with your connection. Check everything before making a decision to cancel your mweb account.

Can you download any stuff via http at full speed? To test it, download a software from www.majorgeek.com. If it's very slow, then there's definitely something wrong with your connection.

I'm aware on how shaping etc works. I'm just tired of the weird shaping that they are applying. I mean take for instance the iTunes example. What is up with that. It's happened more than once. I use a lot of local traffic, so I'm thinking that getting telkom's uncapped will suit my needs best as it has no restrictions on local traffic. I'm not one of those downloading 24/7 people. That's why when I want to actually download something, I want it to at least be no less than half the line speed. 1/8th of the line speed is just of no use to me. I'll rather pay more and see if the grass isn't greener else where.

Good afternoon Everyone

We have some good news to end off your Monday with.

As I’m sure many of you are aware we have been running on alternative Seacom capacity while cable repairs were being carried out. As these repairs have now been completed we have moved back onto our default links so everything on this front is back to normal.

In addition to this as of late this morning service has also been restored on the SAT-3 cable so we are now back to our full international capacity.

Some work on the SAT-3 cable still needs to be finalized and will continue until the 9th of November so we are anticipating that there might still be some intermittent disruptions on this front, but we will do our best to manage these and reduce the impact on our customers as much as possible.

Kind Regards
MWEB Operations

Thanks MWebGuy :)

Not bad, right?

I still seem to be lagging on games and skype. Randomly, just never seems to be constant like it use to before the problems. I hope it fixes after the 9th...

Good evening Eliphas, please provide me more information as to the games you are referring to?

Good stuff.

A server on Neverwinter nights, old game, and maplestory. Never had problems with it ever till Mwebs cable problems. Skype too, this is mostly what I use the internet for. Browsing seems fine but thats not something constant. Sometimes these work fine, sometimes not. Only around 2am-6am since your problems have I been able to play these games and use skype like I use too. Not the best time I'd like to be able to use these things though. :erm:

Please test your experience over the next few days and let me know if it improves. We will then do the neccessary troubleshooting/testing if it doesn't.

Evening fbman, that is unusaul to obtain such high speeds at 5pm. Please continue to monitor your experience through the course of this evening and please let me know if your speeds increase or not.

Speeds aren't that fantastic atm - getting around 150Kbps to Astraweb.

Good evening gregmcc, please refer to the inbox message I have sent you.

Kind regards, MWEB Guy

Thanks for the PM - its not my line stats as I can download from a local http mirror at full speed. Its probably the shaping on nntp. I"ll monitor it and see if it climbs back to normal speed later tonight.

Hi mweb Guy

It now 10:27pm.. Around 8pm I managed to 150k from astraweb which lasted about an hour.. Now I am getting 0kb again. My www has improved. The Mweb server connects, but only getting 40kb from there..

Astraweb connects, but no data transfers, it times outs and the cycle starts again.

10:34pm..

Spoke too soon, now getting no nttp .....

If mweb is at 100%.. why the heavy shaping.. Surely the network cant be running at 100% at this time.

It seems I am the only one having these issues, as no one else has moaned.

Anyone else having problems in Skype with video breaking up. Been having constant problems for the past week. If I switch to MSN then the video is perfect. Its either a problem with skype itself or Mweb are throttling it.

Update: Dont know why I didnt think of this before. Now connected with my FNB account - and skype is perfect.

What's going on!
