Could you expand a bit on this? Seeing that you've identified the problem, what is it? :)

When they've sorted out the problem, perhaps they could also update the Network Notices Page:
http://www.mweb.co.za/helpcentre/NetworkStatus/tabid/1765/Default.aspx
That way it will look as if they fixed the problem as soon as they discovered it (sarcasm).

Edit: I discovered that the outage is reported on the MWeb mobi site, but not the Cape Town (mirrored) site: http://www.mweb.mobi/Outages.aspx?outageType=DSL

@HapticSimian - What chance would you be able to fix it if you knew what the problem was ? lol
I am sure that even if MwebGuy takes 2 hours to explain the problem to you - your reply would still be the same - "Oh Okay then"

@MwebGuy - concentrate your efforts on sorting the problem out first. Thereafter, you can give HapticSimian a detailed account of the error and await the "Oh Okay then" reply.

I'm not asking for a dissertation on the matter, thankyouverymuch. You'll likely find that the majority of people on this forum have a fair idea of how things mesh together regarding their own connectivity and it would be nothing if not interesting to know where the problem lies.

Just because you'd need 2 hours to have a simple outage explained to you it does not follow that everyone else would.

+1 people should realize most of us is in IT. we don't gloss over like normal people when someone says something technical.

Okay the reason it's slow, I see 1,000,000 leechers on: MwebGuy.Does.Dallas.XXX.FHD.H24.mkv

:D

Bellville in the dumps too...
Local ping 7ms 100%, then 77% - 100% packet loss from 192.28.178.113 tengige0-3-0-0.12.cpt-up-1.mweb.co.za and onwards....

Mortiiy

Packet loss now 10-40% on abovementioned node onwards..

MWEB guy I would also like some details of what is causing the problem, that and resolution of the issue would also be nice:(

As a few of the guys mentioned - most of us here are at least moderately technical, so some detail would go a long way in appeasing us.

Back up here also, restart your router if you still don't have international.

Sorry, that makes no sense. I'm in Cape Town, and still down/slow. Why should tens of thousands of customers start routers because some interational link went down? That's now how TCP/IP works...

An informed customer is a happier customer, down or not...

Still crawling on international here in Durbanville, Cape Town.......local fine.

Mweb ISP boss Derek Hershaw said “We’re still waiting on exact confirmation but it looks like most of the capacity should be restored within the next 30 minutes,” Hershaw said.

Its been well over 30minutes...

Even Mail Marshal's not responding for balls, even from different ISP:mad:

International really slow here too. Blousbosrand/Northriding Johannesburg

*edit* but I do see that there's a note on Mweb's website.

Hi guys

A cable break has been isolated on local routes linking us to SEACOM.
We have been informed that repairs will commence in the next half hour, we hope the situation will be resolved reasonably soon.

Thanks for your patience.
