Coming accross another thread regarding downloads and abuse and the possibility of unintentional abuse, how difficult would it be for Mweb to maybe make a small app that a person can shove any large ftp/http downloads through which you guys can still shape and not cause some folks to have panic attacks becuase they're downloading from ftp/http sources which don't conform to shaping rules?

Just a thought? I don't have the issue cause I don't do it that way but quite a few folks do.

So a "vpn app"... it sounds cool, but it would be a security nightmare because in short, it would effectively be a proxy.
And it would be easier for a MyBB c++ guru to have at than someone from Mweb - ISP, not development house :p

Well it wouldn't matter that much as the apps traffic is tagged and can be shaped but anyone who is concerned about a large download for http/ftp could pump it through that. Be no point in hacking it as you are choosing to have that traffic shaped.

For those who are downloading D3 beta, try this: Go to IE Options -> Connections -> Lan settings -> disable Automatically Detect Settings. It improves your download speed big time. I'm downloading the beta at around 40kBps :D :D :D

Hi Kosmik

It's actually pretty hard to 'unintentionally' unshape your traffic. Just steer clear of services providing torrents, or nntp over https / ssh tunnels or via a vpn and you'll be fine - no app required :)

Any feedback Mwebguy ?

I've re-authorized your account, please reset your router and give it a few minutes. If your problem persists we may have to log a line fault for this.

Same issues, iv tried 2 diff modems, unfortunately i dont have another isp to test.

Phoned telkom, as usual nothing wrong on their end, buts im pretty sure its telkom, it always is.

So time to get on the phone for hours and fight with them for days.

Thanks for your help anyway's Mwebguy.

So I'm busy with your trial account...and then I read:

Now I know I'm missing half of the conversation, but what are you saying? No torrents once you are on Mweb?

I don't want to troll, so PM is fine.

No, he's referring to using a seedbox service (like those where you input a torrent link and it gives you a https link), etc.

No, I think torrents are fine but when you use services that bypass Mweb's shaping protocol then they have an issue with it

Hi Friedpet

froot and Eskimos have it correct. We certainly do allow torrent traffic and I'm sure many here will tell you that the speeds are generally quite good as well.

However torrents are considered shaped traffic so if you made use of a service that is specifically designed to bypass Isp shaping you would be breaking the acceptable usage policy.

It could be exchange congestion rpdblu, send us a PM with some more speedtest, tracert and ping results and we'll follow it up with Telkom for you on Monday.

@MWEB Guy

Is it possible that a prolonged dropbox file upload upload session, which I am assuming is done over a secure connection to dropbox could possible influence how one is flagged ?

You'd have to have a really really really big dropbox to have to arouse Mweb's suspicions on that... I synced my "personal" folder (and it was a few gigs) to Dropbox and I haven't had anyone call me yet :p
