Around 8pm I get 20kbs and I only get max speed around 2am in the morning. I understand that I am on a shaped account and that it is business hours but 2 weeks ago I could get 60-80kbs in business hours. Now I can't even get 10kbs.
My friend who is in the same area on the same exchange as me is also experiencing this and another friend who lives about 25km from me and is on a different exchange is also experiencing this.

It started for all 3 of us on the same day about 2 weeks ago. Previously we 50-80kbs during the day which is great and then all of a sudden we get 10kbs or less.
Not sure how my friends connections are doing today, but so far I haven't gotten over 1kbs today from 8am.

I've been with mweb from August last year and mostly I've gotten consistent speeds. Some days are better than others but overall I have been very impressed with torrent speeds during all times of the day.
It can't just be that torrents are given low priority. If it was we would have had this same experience over the last few months, not just these last 2 weeks.

Hi QRox

The thing about p2p traffic (and I'm sorry if this offends anyone) is that most p2p users have an insatiable appetite and it will always fill all of the space made available to it.

Our engineers have done, IMO, an awesome job of getting this balance right and allowing the p2p to flow to some degree even when the network is busy without compromising on the performance of critical traffic such as gaming and video streaming.

Now as much as we would like to keep the network capacity to utilization ratio at a very constant level and we do provision network upgrades on a regular and ongoing basis (we have another significant one planned for the end of this month) there are going to be long term trends that will show some fluctuation between capacity and utilization and this will result in some corresponding fluctuations in the performance of p2p traffic, because it has the lowest priority.

The thing I always say to p2p users on these shaped products is that if you speed watch your torrents there are going to be times when you will be frustrated, but if you look at how much you are able to achieve in p2p traffic over the course of the month and do the math I'm confident that you will find that you are getting very good bang for your buck, even though there will be times when the torrents slow down.

If you absolutely have to have your p2p at high speeds all the time, consider looking at one of our more expensive unshaped offerings.

Regards
Will

What good does it do to find out some people's email addresses if this is happening to a large group of people around the country (at the very least in Gauteng). If a good portion of people are all experiencing the same slow down in internet speeds on things as simple as standard web browsing, e-mail retrieval, looking at the occasional Youtube video, etc; all at the same time for some days (going on a week or two), then logically it stands to reason that there is something on the system, be it from MWeb or Telkom, causing this to happen. Since this wasn't happening a week or two ago, why would it be shaping? And why would shaping be necessary for even standard browsing, if that is indeed the case?

In this way, it makes more sense to look into an exchange or something along the system that would account for this happen, rather than looking into the particulars of someone's email address and narrowing the focus to a handful of accounts. IT seems a broader focus is in order.

That would make the most LOGICAL sense.

I am having problems connecting to steam and also Torrent's not even connecting to any seeds or peers. What's going on with the Mweb network?

Hi Guys

We just ran a test from our test bench and steam connected on the first attempt.
No problem getting connected.

Hi MWEB Guy,

Haven't been able to connect to steam with MWEB account but I am able to connect to Steam using the Vodacom network?

Edit: If I switch over from Vodacom dongle to MWEB account when already logged into steam I can stay connected but the problem is getting connected.
