MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback

When i check my ping/speed, my ping to Cape Town is around 30 and my ping to JHB is around 63. I play games a bit and all the game servers are based in JHB...so i got a highish ping.

Don't suppose there is anything i can do about that right?

Nah, not really. Those are decent pings and you cant tell the difference anyways :p
 
Yeah just sux when a lot of the other ppl have pings 5 - 20 and i have 60 - 80. Its might be a small difference, but its a disadvantage either way
 
Oh one other thing

Im currently on mweb 1mb uncapped. Now im thinking about getting the 1mb uncapped unshaped account. How big is the difference between shaped/unshaped?

The price difference is pretty big so i just want to make sure its actually worth it for my needs.

No matter where you are in SA you shouldn't get up to 80ms to a server in JHB. My ping to Cape Town is 50ms and I'm 1300km away form there.
 
mine perma hovers around 60 - 80...

Always has, might be because i live in Port Alfred which is pretty low of the latency food chain i imagine.

I'm in Empangeni. How can i have better ping than you. You in between 2 major cities. Your net should be smoother than mine.
 
Ah ya soz didn't see the second one.

Im hoping to get a trial 1mb unshaped account and see if that's makes any difference. If its still the same then ill just start playing solitaire or something
 
Been running trial for 48 hrs on a 4Meg line.

Not good at all.

Newshost form MWEB dl @ 29K - taken 12 hrs to dl 3.9G

Torrentz @ 180K not even half of my line speed....

Torrents are very random...

Maybe try do a speed test like the few posts above and see if you have an issue there. I saw some people having issues with newshost so maybe its that.

That's what a lot of complaints have been about to mweb over the last few days. Mweb speeds have been terrible lately.
 
Just checked my torrents now and they only going at 70kb/s. What time do mweb stop shaping because this is really messed up.

30k is normal for uncached content , test the speeds, with a paid news server or 4x free xsusenet accounts , mweb news server never goes any faster on uncached content.
