MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback

Im in Moreletapark, my router is syncing.

I can ping 8.8.8.8, but any website loads EXTREMELY slow.

So I phoned Telkom, and spent like an hour trying to troubleshoot the problem. They tell me everything on thier end is fine, so I call MWEB. It took like 5 minutes for them to tell me theres a problem... with telkom.

So, I have two questions:

1) Are these symtoms experienced by other people in Moreletapark?
2) How the hell does MWEB know about the problem, but telkom does not?

Good Morning FrikkinLazer,

Please note that the outage is on our outage notice board. We receive the confirmation of the outages from Telkom.

Telkom ADSL services in the Moreleta Park ( 012 - 997 ) area will be Inaccessible due to a DSLAM - Network Fault problem.

Ref Number 98ABK240512

Please provide me your MWEB email address and I will enable sms notification for when the outage is resolved.

That SMS notification has already been activated by the helpful lady on the phone.

So basically you have no confirmation from Telkom that the problem exists, or that someone is even working on it, but since many other people called from Moreletapark with the same issue you assume there must be a problem, and post it on the board?

If that is the case, how will you know when the problem is resolved?

We are still receiving calls from this area and we have logged the fault to Telkom. The Telkom call centre would probably not have this information on hand for you.

We get feedback on the fault we logged to Telkom.

We have a reference for a network fault on that exchange which we reported based on our own call trends

So yes we do have confirmation that there is a fault :)

We have a process in place for reporting and getting confirmation of faults and we have a team who monitor these for updates and close the outage on our side once it's resolved.

When we close the outage you will get the closure sms if you opted in.

Hi Guys

Status update on the international traffic situation:

Our 2nd 10GB link was restored about 15 minutes ago and everything seems to be stable.

Now get back to levelling Diablo bunkers - the rest of us are stuck at the office :D

I heard from a big birdy that you guys are planning to upgrade capacity soon...any hints Will :D?

Good job on getting things up again :), one last thing, do users get charged for the SMS notification?

Good morning Yuu, sms notification pertaining to outages is free, we do have to activate it manually everytime there is an outage.

Hi again People

It seems that Murphy is not going to allow us to have a peaceful Friday.

Our DBN->CPT liink has been out since early this morning which usually has no impact as we have a triangular setup between DNB,CPT and JHB. Unfortunately the DBN->JHB link has also just failed meaning that our Durban customers are currently isolated and have no access.

Our engineers are liaising with the relevant 3rd parties to get this resolved as soon as possible.

EDIT: So every now and then I get things wrong and our engineers impress the heck out of me :o

Turns out when this happens the Durban IPC link shuts automatically and our Durban customers are rerouted onto the JHB link.

So the JHB link might be running a little full at the moment, but other than that Durbanites should be fine. (I did find it odd that no-one was complaining :D)

Funny .... the Durban IPC went wonky!!! bet you its been coming for a while!!! Just maybe, it was the source of a lot of the Durbanite issues? Maybe? For the last weeks ??

Have to agree. Maybe now we will finally see an improvement.

Yep, lot of us Durbs folks been having issues for a while now ..... that link is definitely more shyte giving than smooth running.

But again, thanks for the info, was just gonna ask why my news server speed is either super low or dead in the water.

Just to clarify this guys - the IPC link is fine, the backbone links to Durban are currently down, but we're able to bypass this by routing you to the JHB IPC link.

Physical line break or electronic failure?

Way I see it is if its a broken cable of such thats an immediate disconnect, but if it was electronic failure on equipment, then that could have affected us over a prolonged time period while it was on route to failing ??
