Ingame latency and packet loss ....... only applying to the game again.

To elaborate:

Doing a pingtest yields 0% loss, 250 ping (int) and 2ms jitter. Websites load, downloads are fine when tested, etc etc. But come to playing DDO - a friend in my guild who lives in Joburg and I get 20-30% packet loss, ping jumps to the 300 mark and it's very unplayable, all the while, non South Africans in the same quest are totally unaffected. Problem? You betcha, because when I (and he) switch to a non Mweb account, tada, none of the BS.

Good Evening, are you saying that the latency is affecting only south African's? Do all south africans have the same experience regardless of the isp they connect with?

Yep, last time it happened and I spoke with someone, I told them that any issues that arise seem to be affecting only us SA players. I have a buddy right now, also in my guild, playing with zero issues while I'm sitting frozen with 69% packet loss (he's American). It's not cool.

Thanks for the information Mephisto_Helix.

I will be following up with our Gaming team with regards to this.

Hi Mephisto. I'm the Gaming Manager at MWEB and I'm also a DDO player. I'm playing tonight, so I'll check it out, but in the meantime I'll load the client here in the office and check it on our 4mb line. Are you getting the packet loss in raids only or in quest and public areas as well? Also, are you playing in the beta on the Lamania server or the normal US servers? I have to tell you that 200-300ms is normal because the servers are in the US, so pure geography says you are not going to get better than that.

Heya, thanks for getting on here :)

Packet loss is in quests only, when it's raids or public areas lag, it's usually the server itself because then everyone experiences it. Have not used the Lamania beta no, just the usual DDO. I'm happy with the 200-300 (it's usually 280 anyway) but I mentioned the ping rising as it's usually a precursor to the packet loss. The packet loss issue is one only I and my buddy, as South Africans experience because as I mentioned, when it happens, I'll sms my international guildies to get feedback and the Germans, British, Argentinians and Americans report back no packet loss. The DDO servers obviously hate us, lol.

Not a problem, happy to help a fellow gamer, especially a DDO gamer :) (been playing for about 4 years). We have the game client down and we are playing on the Argonossen server at the moment and getting 266 ping and 0% packet loss (this is on a 4mbps line). What we are doing at the moment is collecting all the port and IP information for DDO again (we have done it before but these things definitely change - and probably have given the big update for level 25 coming) to pass through to our networks team to make sure that its traffic is receiving top priority. Thanks for the other info, but one last question, just to make sure we have test on your server for safety sake - what server are you playing on?

MWEB Guy

I have a question: We on 384 have been upgraded to 1mg by Mweb, so can we see less or no shaping on the 384 line until Telkom comes to the party and up our lines?

Good Afternoon Kimbo, that would not be fare towards our unshaped 384 clients. You now have the option of upgrading your line with Telkom and incurring no added cost to upgrade your data package with us.

Sorry .. Afternoon sir :)

Anything up with international?

Pinged google.co.za....
4 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss

The server at www.yahoo.com can't be found because the DNS look-up failed. DNS is the network service that translates a website's name to its Internet address. This error is most often caused by having no connection to the Internet or a misconfigured network. It can also be caused by an unresponsive DNS server or a firewall preventing Google Chrome from accessing the network.

Skype and Gtalk also bombed out.

Awesome, someone who understands, lol. I'm playing on Orien. Appreciate all the testing and whatnot!
