MWEB Uncapped ADSL - Official Q & A

hey guys

quick question .... if i decide to take the all incl offer with mweb and telkom upgrade their line speeds do i automatically get upgraded as well, will i have to pay extra ?

should i take the data only option or the all incl option, i don't want to lose out if telkom bumps up speeds for existing customers for free ...

I have my ADSL Line with another ISP:
- What is required to move my line to MWEB? (Do MyBB forumites suggest separating the two?)
- How long does the switch over take?
- Is there a break in service when switching over?
- Can a switch over _AND_ linespeed upgrade be performed?
Hi Oreomitch,

Unfortunately we cannot take over mgmt of a line in another provider's name, only Telkom itself. This is a current limitation of the Telkom wholesale ADSL line system/process. Your two courses of action are;

- Transfer your line back to Telkom allowing MWEB to take it over (may result in service interrruptions)
- Order a new MWEB All-Inclusive package (inc. line rental) and once active, cancel your current service (may result in double billing for a month depending on timing)

MWB: I applied online last week for the all inclusive 4096 service. How long should this typically take?
The agent I spoke to says it could take up to 30 working days which amounts to 6 weeks... that seems crazy.

thanks

Hi Mweb,

I have a problem, I have spoken to 4 people at Mweb and no one can solve my problem.
I would like my service to be deactivated at the end of the month but have given notice well in advance. The folks I spoke to asked me funny questions in regards to fax numbers etc and I guess they have not recieved anything and I sent a fax today for them to action if not already done so.

Will I be charged at the end of this month again for a service that I wont use next month?
I just need to cool off my account and will be back in a month or more.

Not sure what is needed from me and if anyone is taking ownership of my problem. I have faxed the cancellation earlier today.

Please advise

Hi javs,

MWEB's Uncapped packages are rate managed independently from the ADSL line speed.

So if you use a 512 package on a 4096 line, it will still only run up to a maximum of 512. Similarly when Telkom makes avaliable the higher sync rates, the 4096 package will only run up to 4096.

MWEB will be releasing higher speed packages once Telkom finalises their new line offerings.

Hi MWEB

Are there any problems on the network currently? I only manage to get about 1 mbit speeds on my 4096 line at the moment and my line syncs fine at 4096:

News server was performing poorly, so i restarted my router now i get [19:26:59] Level: ERROR SERVER=news.mweb.co.za, MSG=Unable to read Greetings from Server: Socket - Read From Server Failed

Hi mweb,

I signed up with you guys for the 4mb uncapped solution at R540 p/m and everything is working perfectly so far - a big thanks!

I noticed however the telecommunications act requiring a copy of each clients I.D....

I havent sent a copy of my ID to you yet, however my service is working perfectly so far...

So I just wanna know whether or not you still require a copy?

If one isn't sent to you, do you cancel the service after a certain period or... ?

Hi rambo919,

I've just tested it, no issues downloading on 2 connections. Are you sure you're resolving the correct IP? news.mweb.co.za should be 196.28.78.229

Hi Sensou,

Yes please copy of ID and proof of residence (e.g. recent utility bill), it is required for RICA. And no will not cut you off, but we will have to start insisting that you provide us the neccessary documentation so we are not in breach of the law.

QUESTIONS

2 things i wanna know; I'm with Imaginet at the moment with a 384kbps account and a telkom 5100 router.

let's say i want to cancel my account with Imaginet using telkom line and join Mweb and get the 4096kbps uncapped line; will i need a new router? and i keep seeing this telkom closer plan, i don't understand what it is about? do i need this to have the 4kbps line?

i previously already had about 2 years back an account with mweb if it help; i'm just guessing i dont need anything else such as setups apart from maybe a new router to change to an mweb account.

also if i were to apply for that mweb account in the next 2-3 days or so, will it be up and running by 1st of may of later?

thx for the help

after a while it worked again, but tonight p2p is slowed to 10-15KBps, mayby thats why it struggled to connect?

Hi guys

Anyone having speed issues tonight? RapidShare is only downloading at 2 - 10KB/sec and news.mweb.co.za is getting 0- 3KB/sec. Last time I tried (the weekend) I was getting full speed.

I have a 4096line with a 512KB account and I get about 62KB/sec on news.mweb.co.za and about 53KB/sec for RapidShare

Thanks in advance

I'm having speed issues with torrents, they refuse to go over 100kb/s, averaging about 70-90kb/s. 4mbit mweb uncapped. Anyone else?

I was thinking maybe i've been categorized as a heavy downloader so they started throttling me... hopefully not :)
