MWEB Uncapped ADSL - Unofficial Q

I think many people are not able to distinguish between "uncapped/use as much as you want" and "download at line speed 24/7" and therein lies the problem.

The first means drive your car "free of charge" around town or around the country to go about your normal daily business as much as you want to, or as much as you need to for normal usage.

The second means use your car to constantly drive between Jhb and Cape Town at 160k/hr for the entire month non-stop.

The first means return to the buffet for ONE NORMAL plate of food as often as you want, or need, to, for the whole month.

The second means return to the buffet for TEN plates piled HIGH with food every 5 minutes.

People who cannot, or will not, understand the difference between these two concepts will never be happy with uncapped ADSL, the T&C, MWeb or any other ISP and are best served by another account which ALLOWS THEM to race between Jhb and Cape Town for the whole month non-stop.

I once again encourage those who feel the need to reply with comments -- such as they purchased uncapped and they want what they paid for and uncapped means they can drive to Cape Town and back 1000 times if they want and that they can take 1000 plates of food if they want -- to read and understand the T&C. There are always T&C. If you purchased the product without reading them, knowing about them or caring about them and are now unhappy, well, who's fault is that now? :)

Most people understand what unlimited and uncapped mean.

2. It's too broad. 100% of MWEB users have almost certainly already violated it in some way; even without a strict reading of it. Leaving your browser open and fetching a drink for example, or common software that updates automatically in the background (often waiting until the internet connection is idle).

IANAL, but interpreting this clause in this way is obviously ridiculous. In a legal sense, I imagine that this should be interpreted in the way that a "reasonable person" would interpret it. You don't need to sit and watch your downloads. You don't need to disconnect your router when you go to the kitchen to make dinner. However, you also can't queue up downloads such that they run 24/7/365. Download what you need/want as and when you want/need it -- that is, use the service to go about your normal daiy activity. Downloading 24/7 is, in this sense, not considered normal daily usage. T&C cannot be exact and restrictive and prescriptive because then they become unenforcable and/or irrelevant and/or inapplicable.

This nit-picking of T&C is futile. Just USE your connection for whatever you want without bypassing shaping and without maxing out the line 24/7/365. It's really that simple. Everyone who is getting themselves in a twist about the T&C are their own worst enemy and are bringing their frustrations on themselves.

You need to actively go out of your way to breach the T&C -- you need to specifically bypass shaping or specifically be so greedy as to setup and population downloading systems in such a way as to max out the line for the entire month. Just use your connection in a reasonable way.

Or suck it up and buy one of the uncapped accounts and ALL of these issues VANISH.

Anybody who's used these accounts knows that 24/7 unattended downloading is nigh on impossible with the shaping. This makes the whole scenario unachievable.

i don't believe the people complaining are in any way reasonable though... out of 70000 uncapped clients, we have about 30 odd ppl complaining loudly. i'll bet these are the very ones who are downloading 700GB of "linux distros" every month :)

Uncapped internet is not going anywhere, guys you still got tomorrow and the next day to download stuff. I really can't understand how anyone can have nothing better to do but download 24/7, or for that matter debate T&C's and FUP's all day. Nobody drives their car full speed all day 24/7 or eats flat out 24/7. People who download 24/7 can honestly not say that they use everything the have downloaded.

I am sure MWEB has not been unfair to anyone if you got banned I am sure it was for a good reason, I mean out of over 70 000 client what some 20 are moaning?

Out of 70,000 clients how many have access to a complaints platform such as this one? How many people just 'bear' it? Have you heard of selection bias?

Reasonable is what MWEB was before they started terminating peoples' accounts and bullying them. If you do a search of my position on MWEB, my opinions were most favourable. Ever since they started booting people off and doing precisely what their boss said they would not do, my reasonable mind started asking questions.

20 people on MyBB but how many of those 70,000 are on MyBB?

We just want clarity, and since you have a lower service quality expectation please don't suggest that we should accommodate ourselves to your expectations.

If you want clarity why don't you deal with MWEB technical on private basis, I discussed my usage and received all the answers I needed.

Downloading 24/7 could be considered daily usage if you are downloading at 1-2GB per movie and then you or members of your family watch it then or at a later stage. Note that these could be legal downloads, lot of sites offer flat rate subscriptions or per episode subscriptions. Some of them are foreign language. Definitely that could be considered abusive although it's not copyright infringement by any measure, and it's abusive purely because the provider wants to advertise a psychological perception of unlimited internet, wants to charge a premium for it and then does not deliver for those who actually may want to download more than the average.

Why should I? I dealt with MWEB on an one-on-one basis when my line died and when they double billed me and nothing came of it. BTW I'm curious what credentials you have to offer such advice - I mean you are an expert at customer service, sociology and psychology? You know the best way to achieve results?

The thing is I have the answers I want and you don't. Looks like I know more than you about MWEB's T&C's and FUP.

LOL, that's so illogical. You're assuming your pattern of critical thinking is the same as mine. And your expectations are the same as mine. Also as said if I did not moan about MWEB a month ago I would be still sitting without internet when my connection died suddenly I tried working through the telephone system and have a R200 bill to show for it, a lot of wasted time and nothing achieved - till I got the chap from this forum to look into things.

Agreed you do get better service here, but have you tried to PM the chap here to discuss the T&C's and FUP privately?

That would flag his account and they would check. Better not.

Do your downloads get randomly disconnected as well now because of shaping? I've never had that happen, and automated downloaders will reconnect in any case. I think everyone with this account could download 24/7 easily if they wanted to.

That would flag his account and they would check. Better not.

Oh ye, you know this for a fact because...? They link up MyADSL PM's to their network technicians?

Anyway, listening to Tanya35 about MWeb is like listening to Alan about "loony liberals".

MWEB have now effectively all but admitted to some kind of cap/threshold that triggers "further investigation" and almost certain termination. It's a cap in all but words.

MWEB has admitted to a trigger. The trigger is a threshold of data downloaded, which is in turn effectively a cap on the service.

which is what i have always said. which is why we are still to see any 384k users being banned for the VPN excuse.

even at 2GB per movie, that's around 350 movies if you're downlaoding 24x7. 10 movies a day? i'm sorry, pull the other leg...

these accounts are for normal internet use, not families who need to watch 10 movies every day. there's in internet addict* package for that

* and a visit to the local loony bin might help as well...

No they don't randomly disconnect (don't know where u picked that one up).
Speeds just dwindle to nothing during the daytime. That's the shaping.

Any message you send to Mweb about a problem has to have your account details. They always want that.
What's with the insults?
