MWEB Uncapped ADSL - Unofficial Q

even at 2GB per movie, that's around 350 movies if you're downlaoding 24x7. 10 movies a day? i'm sorry, pull the other leg...

these accounts are for normal internet use, not families who need to watch 10 movies every day. there's in internet addict* package for that

* and a visit to the local loony bin might help as well...

+1

a decent quality high def movie with decent sound is around 10GB. And the internet addict product has the same terms... so you're paying for the same set of T&C, therefore when they ban you you'd have paid more for the same excuse.

We have given the assurance on more than one occasion that only a small group of customers were affected in this initial exercise. Let me put this another way:

Every customer affected by this exercise was making a concerted effort to max out their line utilization on a constant and ongoing basis. There has been a lot of discussion involving all you can eat analogies so let me continue the theme by stating quite simply that if this type of ‘binge’ downloading is your sole purpose for having an Internet connection then you need to be on the Internet Addict product. I really can’t put it more plainly than this.

I think this is clear enough now. No one actually needs any more explanation than this, if you're going to be trying to max out your line or using over 400GB every month then you know it, very very well. You also know that you're costing MWeb far more than the R530 they've offered the service for in good will to help the SA broadband market move to uncapped. There's a more expensive package that actually covers the cost of doing this with a home uncapped account, problem solved for that tiny percentage of people who just have to download all day. The few people who keep going on about it are just being petty imo.

I'm surprised MWeb care this much about complaints from so few people when no one else will be having these "problems" about being cut off.

No they don't randomly disconnect (don't know where u picked that one up).
Speeds just dwindle to nothing during the daytime. That's the shaping.

Any message you send to Mweb about a problem has to have your account details. They always want that.
What's with the insults?

Well you said it was "nigh on impossible" to download 24/7. My speed slow down a lot but keep going daytime, you get around 50-100KB on P2P daytime on 4mb, probably more if you got multiple sources etc. Quite possible..

And it was more like a joke than an insult, I just think you're not going to be very objective about MWeb anymore. You're just posting negatively about them everywhere you can, and I don't think they deserve it at all in this case. I have never like MWeb either, but I think with this cheap uncapped service they're providing a great product, and the issues of a few people who want to download close on 24/7 or pull 400GB+ consistently is not vaguely a problem for me. Their responses to this have also been perfectly reasonable to me.

ok wait, so htf do they manage to block just news downloads? U mean to tell me they're actually 'blocking' movie downloads? Time to cancel MWEB!

There's an announcement from the MWeb op in this forum about it. You'd have to have rushed past it to come and complain and tell us you're going to cancel MWeb!

And news downloads go over a certain port, so pretty easy to block them. They said they are going to have to slow downloads to keep http etc at full speed.

Care to post a link to the post in question?

EDIT:Never mind found the thread..Relief...

Hi Dudley

I understand your frustration. News is given the same priority as filesharing and other p2p 'like' traffic. We are experiencing a degradation of international service at the moment, which means we have had to signifcantly reduce the allocation to this type of traffic to keep everything else running.

I will update this thread with progress on the outage - apologies for the inconvenience.

Kind Regards

Nah I wont actually cancel, I'm really chuffed the MWEB guys actually responded to me :) Nice! Thank you.....ok, well, I'm sure things will get back to normal sometime, thanx anyways, really enjoying the service otherwise...100 points to MWEB

I'm trying to figure out why, if you have money to spend "a fortune" on sound and a decent projector, you don't spend a little bit and get blu-ray movies to feed it with something proper?

So now its about money? Well - I spent money on UNCAPPED internet, what I choose to do with it is my business... kicking people off for downloading too much without even bypassing the pathetic shaping (excuse) makes it a CAPPED product - so all I wanna know - is how much can I get on my CAPPED product.

Just so you know - I actually do have a pretty decent bluray collection.

Hey, how long does it take to get my phone line converted to adsl line?

Day 1: Last week I signed up for 384K uncapped internet (All inclusive).

Day 2: I submitted all the required documents via Mweb ADSL signup page.

Day 5: Got a call from a Mweb guy. He said that my order's being processed.

Day 8: No further calls from the Mweb guy. No ideas as to what my order status is. I still have my Mweb reference code. Can I use it to phone Mweb office to ask them for the latest update on my order?

What's the average number of weeks it take Mweb to activate my ADSL line on my behalf?

Which route is really good and decent priced?

Hi Kitty,

Your order depends on availability and how quickly Telkom can activate. We can try to speed this process up. Please PM me your details and I'll follow this up for you.

Mweb Operations, i would love to have proper HD streaming right here in south africa for us where we could enjoy proper 1080p or at minimum 720p shows and movies. i for one would not be forced to acquire what i would like to see because either it never shows in RSA, it shows too late and i can't join in the conversations related to them or too much repetitiveness. even proper HD streaming of old stuff would be really really cool.

Isn't an HD stream around 10-12Mbits/s for 720p? Think you're out of luck.
