Extract from the FreeTheWeb Facebook page:

"Hey fans! We can't hold it in any longer... In the spirit of progress and a demand for a better Internet in South Africa, we're just 1 day away from some really exciting news. So be sure to keep your eyes peeled on our page at around 10:30am tomorrow for the announcement. (We will also be putting up a press release as well so that you can catch up on the news in case you missed it) Free The Web!!"

Kind of excited! :D

Well well... MWEB seems to really be pushing it... I never did like them, since I always felt they ripped people off. But since this freetheweb thing, they're really pushing for the other providers.... Hmm... I need to see what the news is too... And with MWEB, when they make a big deal of something, they tend to deliver... Here's hoping for faster service for the same price, or our shaped accounts becoming unshaped. ;)

I'm really stoked to find out what it is.

Best case scenario would be relaxed shaping and/or higher line speeds :D But I'm not going to hope for something unlikely to happen hehe.

Either way, something we don't have today is arriving tomorrow!

I still cant believe this is the same company who for such a long time did nothing to improve the local internet market. Well done Mweb, a leopard can change its spots it seems.

I hope they are bring on some more bandwidth because the service kinda sucks at the moment...

Not at all, I've been enjoy some great downloading since the start. Even now with the connections down i'm still getting 100kb/s download.

there were talking earlier in the month about open peering maybe its come through and they dropping their prices...hehe

Feel kinda half half about Mweb. Their free local was a step in the right direction. It ended terribly for all involved though- PR disaster. They were trying though. Now this uncapped thing... Some ISPs (SAOL) have conceded defeat and are no longer offering uncapped, so Mweb is still doing well on that front.

After the whole local story, I still can't bring myself to use them directly. Currently with Openweb, on a GOLD account- seems to cruise along at 30kB/s all the time. Happy so far :)

streaming the world cup live on their web site - for free - no data usage?

I have been expecting them to intoduce some additional capped packages, and to bring down the price from R99 per 1.5GB.

I know that sounds boring, but there is a huge gap between the 384Kbps capped, and the 4096Kbps uncapped. (512Kbps is a waste IMO).

or maybe they have invested in some of the other cables that are on the way?
