MWEB Uncapped - something big might be happening tomorrow!

Right guys, I think its time to stop ranting now. No matter what WE (the mybb community) say, it has no effect on the overall outcome. We are not going to change their minds. The few Mweb reps that are on these forums are probably not gonna bother reading our complaints and they sure as hell wont stop this from happening. This is the route Mweb wants to go and they are clearly not going to listen to their customers. They will try and explain things (watered down) but in the end, its going to happen. So I say, lets continue using their uncapped accounts, seeing as they are currently the best, and not bother using this rubbish service that they have just announced. Until such time a new ISP comes out with a better uncapped package and we can all jump ship once again!

Edit: I think Mweb just damaged themselves. Shot themselves in the foot. Bang! there goes all the good they'v done so far...
I think MWEB were starting to win people over with their shot at the uncapped market, but by linking themselves with the arrogant monopoly that is DSTV they created a fail. The DSTV situation is fresh in our minds today with the TopTV launch as well.

The same company that owns MWEB also owns Multichoice so they are linked already. There is simply no getting away from the fact that DSTV is money making racket of note. Lucky for us, MWEB is still not there yet. Things might change in the future once they have cornered the market but lets not go there right now and enjoy this affordable uncapped internet for now.

Internet is only going to get cheaper. More cables are coming by 2011 and MWEB is going into more peering agreements with other ISPs.

I actually think it's a pretty good idea.. Say your parents are paying for dstv premium, you could always just use their detail to watch dstv on demand from your place/flat via internet without having to pay a dstv subscription :D
So you must just pay for uncapped 4Mbps and you got free dstv :D

I agree but MWEB is already trying to make it very difficult or at least no quick changeover for their customers who wants to leave. If they make this deal with Telkom to drop line rental you will be tied into them and cannot simply leave if you are unhappy. If you do decide to leave you will have to contact Telkom again, get the line rental reinstated before you will be able to use you DSL service, ie downtime of at least a couple of days.

Now the deal might never happen but they are trying and I'm afraid the cons outweigh the pros on this one IMO.

The flipside is that if they champion this move for EVERYONE in South Africa then kudos to them.

What a load of old bollocks. How disappointing.

30kb downloads on peer to peer on a 4mbit line, great now lets add a whole whack of traffic to our already congested network and shape the geeks even more !!!! BOOOO

This was actually such an EPIC fail , just thought about it .... why would NASPERS use MWEB to relaunch an old product ? Simple mweb is now being seen as the "good guy" , and they now have a better market share than before , people have softened up to them because of the uncapped adsl , but that is not the same with DSTV . In fact it is the opposite , we have not choice but to like them , we certainly cant leave ..... ETV ? Sabc 1,2 and 3 ? I think not .

So it uses its most people friendly and most effective marketing/brand name ... Mweb to sell this . Had DSTV came forth and tried to sell this product , we would have told them to %%%% off , straight away , and we might have all been fooled into thinking , shame DSTV drags poor mweb down with it . Since MWEB made the announcement however it caused a large stir amongst the internet folk , yet we are handed this . It was a good try , but even if you shine a turd , it is still a turd , sorry .

Dstv now finally has lost its strangle hold on market in SA , TopTv , and now the new one online from next month will be the wakeup call that they need ! With people moving over , they will have NOCHOICE ( :) ) , but to give the subscribers what they want , or just to rename themselves to DSTV supersport , one of the only reasons many of us have dstv anyway .

:p LOOK MA MWEB RE-INVENTED the wheel, and this time it is round but will still go bump if you hit a pothole :D

MAYBE THIS WAS A STUNT TO STEAL THE LIMELIGHT FROM TOPTV FOR A DAY

I think this is quite good news as it means I can technically add a third TV to my HD PVR and extraview decoder setup that doesn't have DStv on demand functionality atm. I would never pay anything extra for it though and from what I have read Mweb has alluded to the fact that this may not be free forever.

Oh and Mweb, the ID number linking option doesn't seem to be working.

The congestion was more apparent than usual tonight. I wonder if their network is capable of more load or are they just de-
prioritising something even more.

im kinda confused... DTSV on demand has been around for yonks... they have old shows, and half the time the stuff doesnt work

so what the hell is the point?? :wtf:
couldnt agree more-- it is a complete let down

Well , This might be a let down for most people who have a DSTV subscription , but I think its pretty cool that all MWEB users get DSTV on demand for free without having a DSTV subscription.

iirc you still need to have a premium dstv subscription to download this stuff ... it's in their T&C's

Yup, You have to have a DSTV Premium subscription as far as I know. It would be cool if they had a lot more stuff to pick from. an entire database of the movies they own or something. Pushing it a bit? I think its a cool step forward, but for a lot of users its useless, including myself. But still... guess baby steps are better than nothing. +1 for MWEB all together.

I have not yet tried to download anything , But I know for a fact you can watch the stuff on the site without having a DSTV subscription , as I have watched a few episodes and I don't own a DSTV subscription.

Unless you are referring to buffering as downloading.

It would be good if they had a dedicted channel for streaming live sports events, I'd be willing to pay monthly for something like that.

Am I missing something here. ISP is TELKOM but I can stream ?
