MWEB Uncapped Throttling

I'm a little worried about MWEB's throttled 4MB bundle, so I need some help before I decide.

I need the cheapest, yet reliable ISP for a 4MB Uncapped bundle, and so far MWEB seems the best. However, there are 5 of us in the house. Could this be a problem when it comes to individual usage patterns? If so, what other options are there? Would really love to go for Openweb, but its almost R100 more for the packages...

Thanks

I don't think people have experience with MWEB's new throttled packages and they will probably be perfect if you won't be downloading a lot, but if you are going to be downloading quite a bit, then I would suggest stay away as they throttle the more you use from what I've read. I certainly wouldn't move my line to them not knowing what their service levels are like. Rather go with Openweb if that's what you've considered. You will be happy! Otherwise Web Africa - R339, Afrihost (R697 incl line) - I'm sure they will be great once their IPC points are up and running (so you may want to wait and see,) Telkom - R699 bundle, Cybersmart - R685 Bundle (Also waiting for their two IPC points to be installed, but rubbish atm.

Thanks. The problem with OpenWeb is the price. It will come to around R760, which is a hell of a lot more expensive than the other options.

Would anyone recommend Afrihost Uncapped then?

At the moment people probably wouldn't recommend Afrihost, but they are expecting two IPC's the end of the month and some other upgrades, see - http://www.afrihost.com/microsites/adsl_network/?homeslide for details of progress. I'm sure they will be up to scratch after those have come into place :) Can't say for uncapped, but my capped account with them flies! ...wait and see for comments next month. Maybe get a Once off Vanilla account with Openweb for now if you need to be connected, you can set it to expire after a month when you sign up.

No rush at the moment, so I could wait. Seems like Telkom is winning this battle... :/

Telkom uncapped is the best. I have been with Afrihost, Mweb, Openweb for uncapped and Telkom has been my favourite. You will get a good quality line, with no shaping during the day.

You can run ptp full speed during the day.

With all of the others I had issues. I was on Openweb Gold and it was a constant struggle of switching accounts. With Telkom it just works. (And with the new unofficial forum rep - who in my opinion is one of the best forum reps, it's excellent.)

I must say, my dad has never had problems with his 20GB, 10Mb/s line (which is now 40...). So maybe thats the way

I recently "changed" from MWEB premium ( I think they call it now ) to the throttled 4Mbps product and all seems well. Service is no different to my previous product. I`m not a heavy user though , recently my average usage per month was approx 60Gigs per month and my usage patterns are still the same. I can recommend the service based on my experience over the past 10 days.

My problem is that there are 5 of use sharing the connection - I'm sure we wll push 60GB.

That`s the thing with the new product I suppose , one dont quite know how much will be too much. From my experience so far though it looks pretty good. I`ll supply more feedback later once I have used it for a longer period.

Mweb throttles regular uncapped accounts anyway. Specifically, when using Bit-Torrent.
I use BT maybe a few days a month, and when I do, everything slows to a grind.
Currently looking to go elsewhere.
But as my namesake goes, not with Telkom

Throttling a protocol is called shaping bud.

Half way into the month and I have been pleasantly suprised at the consistent speed tests going through MWEB 4MBPS throttled uncapped. We are not heavy users generally so this suits us fine - in fact I used to be with Afrihost capped and I find this A LOT more consistent and stable...
