Since MWEB have decided to be so vague about their throttling policy on their new 'uncapped' throttled products, i thought id share my experience with it and hope anyone else who has had the displeasure of experiencing this pathetic product will too.

I was previously on MWEB 1Mbps uncapped with line for about a year (Paying R488 per month even though the advertised price for the last 4 months was R339 per month but, whatever, water under the bridge right) on average i downloaded about 50Gig a month so i suppose im an average user?

I changed my account to the new 2Mbps 'Uncapped' throttled product on 5/2/2013 and decided to test it a little by downloading more than I usually would and by 13/2/2013 i had downloaded ~30Gig before I was throttled down to 20kbps on about 13/2/2013. i have since been throttled at 20kbps at all times day and night regardless of network load.

I phoned MWEB and they confirmed that i am throttled and will remain throttled indefinitely??

My feedback and public service announcement to anyone looking to sign up for an uncapped adsl account: GO TO ANOTHER ISP THAT ACTUALLY OFFERS ADSL, DONT GO TO MWEB.

Throttled after 30GB?!?

These throttled accounts are worse than Afrihost! #MWEBFAIL

Whoa, if that's true, then MWEB sucks :(

Yeah, and the fact that they are meant to be competing against the Telkom uncapped packages, which are apparently working well now...

I shall be cancelling MWEB this month, which is unfortunate, as I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with them.

Money talks though!

I wonder if MWEBGUY can comment and explain how these throttling policies work. Being capped after only 30GB is pathetic. I would go through 30GB of "linux distros" in a day.

Hi Gboss

please see my reply to your question here.

Also wanted to change to 2mb account until I saw it is shaped account. Rather stay on the 1mb account and not be throttled.

Hi Gboss

please see my reply to your question here.

To quote you from your link MWEB guy:The throttled products is for the moderate user who wants to have the benefit of uncapped adsl and plans to do casual browsing, emailing, online banking or sending small to medium attachments.

This is similar to the package i set up for my 75 year old mother so she can stay in touch over the internet. It costs less than R200 per month not, R449..........

Just so that we keep the replies in the necessary thread, her is MWEB guys response:

Hi Gboss

First off you need to look at the product itself and see what it was designed for.
The throttled products is for the moderate user who wants to have the benefit of uncapped adsl and plans to do casual browsing, emailing, online banking or sending small to medium attachments.

There is no limit to how much you can download and the throttling is based on your usage pattern for the last 30days. "

I understand that the account is targeted at the moderate user but come on MWEB, you dont get much more moderate than30GBs....

Besides that Slartibartfast's usage was 50GB average and since moving to 2MB throttled he got the chop after excedding just over half his average usage. I'm only quoting the 50GB from his 1MB account as his 30day average since he hasn't even gone 2 weeks on the new 2MB account. See how confusing this gets now...

I think what we all want is clearly defined throttling limits ie. if you exceed 15GB you will be throttled for the next 7 days. Kinda like IS policy, it's a **** policy but at least you knew where you stood wrt to usage.

Sorry to Jack your thread Slartibartfast, but I think we all wanna know what goes on with these new "Throttled" accounts. I cancelled my MWEB account because I feared this would happen to me. I still haven't found a new ISP to use from March on.
I was actually considering going back to MWEB and trying an AIC 2MB account but I'm not so sure anymore....

Another disgruntled Mweb user here....

My line regrade (4mb/s throttled) was completed on Friday evening. Prior to that (1 - 14 February 2013) I had downloaded approximately 52gbs. Following regrade, I have downloaded approximately 2.5gbs.

Guess what? Woke up this morning to find line throttled. Have asked Mweb Guy on facebook to send me through cancellation forms - In terms of the CPA, I'm going to exercise my right (cooling period) to cancel the regrade. I think I'll be moving to Openweb come 1 April.

Right... update time. I've just got off the line with Mweb.

When I changed to the 4mb/s throttled package, I was expressly and explicitly told that if I wanted to go back to my 2mb/s premium package, they would be able to effect the change immediately as the 2mb/s package constituted an upgrade on the 4mb/s throttled package (I asked 5 times and they sales person confirmed this was the case).

I am now advised that Mweb will not be able to assist me until Monday, because going back to 2mb/s premium is a downgrade and they have to liaise with Telkom re: changing the line speed.

I then asked to be upgraded to 4mb/s premium for the remainder of the month because I didnt want to wait another 11 days with crappy 256 kb/s internet whilst Mweb decided to get its act together to "downgrade me". I was then told to hold. After a couple of minutes of waiting, I was told that the salesperson couldnt upgrade me because she needed a manager. At which point I just gave up...

I'm phoning cancellations on Monday. Seriously think this whole throttled screw up of Mweb is going to see fortunes of people cancelling their accounts.

Awesome, I requested to move from 1Mbps to this new 2Mbps throttled package. It took a week for Mweb to do this.

Friday Feb 15th the upgrade was done. Saturday Feb 16th after 5GB I was throttled.
