Hi there,

This month I went through data quite fast and so I decided to install NetMeter. Yesterday I bought a 3gb booster from Mweb and reset the totals on NetMeter. I then did some downloading and according to NetMeter the max I could have downloaded was 620mb, so think of my surprise when I check my account on mweb and it reports that I have used 1.7gb's!

Now what should I do? Obviously I should contact Mweb, but I doubt they are going to believe me. At the moment changing ISP's is not an option...

Thanks,

Do you have a wireless LAN?
Do you have other computers on your LAN?

Check to see if there are concurrent sessions...

Maybe antivirus updates and windows updates got thrown into the mix as well?

Was the Mweb account on zero when you started the experiment?

The are a number of things you should look out for, the first is is remember that usage calculations includes uploads. You should be able to check your usage using the SAIX userstats page (userstats.adsl.saix.net) with your ADSL username and password (at least most saix isps can). This will give you a better breakdown on your usage (such as how long you were connected), and compare it to the mweb one.
MWEB should then also be able to check and see if anyone else has been using your account from a different port, a password change would help you out there.

Okay according to Mweb I have used 5.7gb in total from the beginning of the month.

According to userstats.adsl.saix.net I have used 4.739gb in total from the beginning of the month.

Busted!

Anything's possible.. so's spam, or a PC that's been compromised...

But if it's neither, and just a faulty metering program, then there's troubles ahead.

I feel they should drop this cap nonsense as things are starting to get more and more ridiculous, this thread just being another example of the stupidity of a capped system.

Yes this **** of shaping and caping is ridiculous.

Telkom is just digging their own grave, as soon as SNO starts offering services everyone should change immediately.

NOTHING, BUT NOTHING CAN BE WORSE THEN TELSH1T.

Well, it took me 20 minutes on the phone at my cost to explain to them that their system was messed and it resulted in the operator handing the problem over to their engineers.

This cap is a load of crap! I am not even a heavy downloader- just general stuff like podcasts and some online gaming and the cap is gone.
