I had MWEB fibre installed in my Mother’s house in August. At the same time I also got the VOIP facility & ordered what was advertised on Takealot as a VOIP cordless phone ( I double-checked that the description said VOIP), an Alcatel C250. I am staying with my mom at the moment & trying to set this phone up but no matter where I plug this phone into the router (following MWEB’s instructions) the phone does not give me an option for seeing the IP address. I am now not sure if this is a VOIP phone as it does not have an Ethernet cable, only a normal phone cable. I tried to return the phone to Takealot but they won’t accept it. I am guessing the reason is that the original seller is no longer with Takealot. Now I only have one option left as far as I can see & that is to get an adapter to convert the Alcatel C250 to VOIP. To avoid making another purchase error, can anyone shed some light on which adapter I need. The best, cheapest kind, please.

Firstly do you have voice package with Mweb? They'll normally provide you a S I P number it does cost extra.

Yes I have a voice package with MWEB. I have ported the landline phone number. MWEB said I needed to get the IP address from the phone but there are no phone settings on the Alcatel C250 to get the IP. The light on the corresponding lan port where the phone is plugged in does not come on.

The Alcatel C250 looks to be an analogue DECT phone and not a VOIP DECT phone.
On the Alcatel website it's listed as a VOICE handset and doesn't mention VOIP or SIP anywhere.

To use that handset you are correct you will need a VOIP ATA gateway, that will do the SIP registration and signalling to your provider. It will need a WAN port and a FXS port

Grandstream HT801

I would advise though trying to get rid of that Alcatel C250 and rather get a VOIP DECT device like the Siemens Gigaset A540IP, Yealink W60P or similar.
