MWEB only had a license to run a trial Wimax network, and they weren't allowed to charge for it, and IIRC that license has since been revoked.

ICASA are still sitting on their laurels with regards to allocating WiMax spectrum.

That would be a start. They are the most non-neutral ISP going.
 
I understand that, but if Mweb can "force" other companies for free peering, surely they can get some spectrum... I mean, what are they doing with the base-stations/towers and CPEs they used during the trial?
 
can someone please get the LTE ball rolling in SA?

alot of reports indicate that LTE is good enough for gaming (verizon's LTE network in the USA)
 
I think we should start a letter writing campaign to ICASA requesting naked ADSL. If enough of us make a noise something is bound to happen.

ICASA managed to get Telkom to upgrade the exchange in my area after Telkom told me that I had to move if I wanted faster ADSL.

So maybe they can do something about Telkom's double dipping in the ADSL market if they receive enough complaints.
 
Question: Is it possible for wireless technologies like LTE to replace ADSL in a cost effective way? Would it be possible to get 10Mbps speeds congested areas?

It seems like we will never win with Telkom/Copper networks and the only way forward is to replace the last mile...
 
they cant even get 10mb running correctly... what to say about LLU...
 
Remove mandatory line rental on ADSL and I'm happy for starters.
 
MWEB for the win! They have finally realized how much $$$ they can make if the make the net cheaper for the masses. MWEB is going to be richer than the rich in the next few years. A lot of these small ISP's will just get bought out.

Same story all-over the world, Mweb go for the kill. Pressure these ICASA morons to act and let us drop these prices in half by mid 011. Let's go.

Even though I'm for net neutrality in general, in SA it hardly matters to me for now. All the things MWeb have done and are pushing for at the moment are far more important i.e. uncapped, free peering, naked ADSL etc.

Also what is making them the most non-neutral? If it's got to do with their peering agreements then that was done for another reason entirely and is justified for SA imo.
