Nothing new. I've reverse engineered the source code for the java app on phones on many occasions.
They now have an official plugin for Pidgin, which is better than my plugin on launchpad in a few ways, except for the annoying popup ads they have.
When you download the code, it is marked as open source. The problem is that to be able to download it, you have to agree to terms and conditions specifying that you may not redistribute it at all, which contradicts the GPL they're using.
At least they're moving in the right direction, and I'm hoping they clear up their terms and conditions.
If they go open source, can someone inject some kind of source code into the client that kills ppl who use MXit speak?
Please?
Here's the link to the competition.
Not such a big turn out considering how big the prize it....
Not really, open source projects do have source control so you can see exactly who made what changes where. And people do check these things before they release another build, surely linux would have hundreds of back doors if this was the case...
Anyway from what I'm seeing and the T&C of the competition it's the protocol that's opened up, not the client....
Why don't you all go and have a look, http://devzone.mxit.com, we are currently running a competition here as well with R100 000 up for grabs.

What's the point? There are already great IM clients out there such as Pidgin. Why can't they just use standard protocols? That is why I'll always use GTalk and not stupid mxit.
