My $18,000 Mac

That is one hot setup you posted zwieback. If you going to buy a MAC you keep it to MAC. Those monitors are just beautiful.

Hehe, that is generally how I think. I currently have two 23" Apple LCD monitors - they are truly gorgeous! And the quality is excellent - I am not put off by limited tilting, etc. One day a pair of 30" monitors would be rather nice though!

I know many won't get why Mac people get so gaga over the aesthetics. But have a look at this beauty:

Tomshardware has already proven with even with the most dmeanding games and apps, going over 6GB of RAM will start to limit the system

Sure, the original "system" was over-the-top. If I was really in the market for a new Mac Pro, and taking into account what I would be doing with the machine, I probably would settle for 6 to 8GB of ram.

I am currently using a pretty old Mac Pro with 6GB of ram and I find it lightning fast.

I went to have a look at it on the web, and I must say it does look good - I do realise I have my snobby Apple ways to deal with. I wasn't fair to knock the Dell monitor earlier like I did.

At 30 inches and 2560 by 1600 resolution, even a Mitsubishi Hello Kitty monitor looks good. ;)

I gather some people go that route. But some of us want to pick and choose the BEST of both worlds. If DELL has a better model that year - go with that, if TransIntl has cheaper yet same rating and heatsink RAM go with that and spend the extra $$$ on more RAM or buy more plugins. Most plugins for Apple Software aren't made by Apple themselves, and Apple has no equivalent for Adobe Photo Shop. So on the inside your Mac will be a hybrid too and on the outside - well I'd get what is better - looks to me are not important - but functionality is, for example, the Mac Pro is great because the case allows you to swap HDs and Memory very easily but the cheese grater is no biggie. It's there but if Apple instead allowed for two more HDDs instead of that - I'd go with the ugly case and more capacity. I do realise that everyone has unique tastes though.
