Rant begins in 5..4..3...2....1
I am seconds away from terminating my Afrihost account.
I had been a loyal and happy customer with them for two years. This all changed when I switched to uncapped 1mb speed.
At first I experienced beautiful speeds and my family clocked up a heavy amount of downloads in June because there are 3 adults who use the internet to watch series and such.
Then in the beginning of July I received an email which stated
"We've made some changes to your uncapped account which we believe
will improve the overall performance and speed of
your ADSL connection with us."
Which was a down right lie. They say this in order for them to sneakily transfer you to a server which throttles your line till your downloads are going at a speed reminiscent of the days of dial up.
Frankly speaking if your service (Afrihost's uncapped) is too poor a quality to handle my family's heavy internet needs, then just say so and advise me to try a different ISP. Don't hide behind the false sincerity of doing me a favour as shown below.
"Based on your download and usage patterns we believe
that an Uncapped ADSL account on the Internet Solutions
(IS) Uncapped Realm will be better suited for you."
I would have respected Afrihost had they been honest and just said
"dude you download too much for us, we can't handle it, we could move you to another server but it would just throttle you maybe Openweb or Mweb would be better for you."
But no I was forced into having to pay for a service which became completely terrible and when I actually emailed them all I received were copy and pasted generic responses with the same false genuine lines. Links to terms and conditions as well as links to capped accounts if I want to get better speeds.
None of which actually spoke about my problem instead they simply just told me their protocols for heavy downloaders. They did not reason with me, or offer to put me through to a supervisor, instead they just treated me like I was some common thing on the street. When as I said, I have been there for 2 years. That is R200+ times 24 months.... I expected better support. Not robots saying:
"Thank you for the mail
" & "Warm Regards" - Which are in every Afrihost person's signature.
Giving me links to a capped account is just stupid. I wasn't complaining about the speeds! The speeds were fine until I was flagged as high downloader and moved. I was complaining about being coerced onto this new IS account which has resulted in me getting no download speed for P2P - like 0.2kbps and 10 kbps on normal downloads off a website when before I had 200kbps on p2p and 100+ on certain websites. I mean I can't even browse without it taking two years.
Conclusion - Afrihost gives a good uncapped - UNTIL - you actually use the account properly and download a lot thereafter they will sneak you off onto a different server in order to throttle you. They will send a email stating that they want to improve your experience - what utter bullsh*t. The disgustingly sneaky way they move you to throttle the account under the guise of improving your connection is deplorable.
The lack of any real conversation between them when I asked to be moved back, shows how inefficient their support staff are.
Afrihost you have just lost one of your most loyal customers and I will never allow any one of my vast network of family or friends or work colleagues to sign up with you plus this long ass rant will teach any people who were contemplating signing up with your company that they would be better off licking an electric fence.
