Just bought myself a macbook pro 17" core i7 with an HD screen.

I hope it will be fast enough and last a while.

Excited and a little nervous.

My first mac.

Hoping for the best:)

Just wanted to say HI!

Nope. It ships with a 1920x1200 screen.

Your laptop should serve you long, especially if you upgrade it one day with a killer SSD and 8gb ram.

Enjoy it man!!!! Remember, once you go Mac you don't go back - hehe ;)

the screens in the istore where all 1900*900 or something.

I ordered a screen resolution of 1900*1200.

Nervous because i hope it gets here in one piece.

got it through macimpact.

You love the SSD upgrade, don't you ? :D

I will only consider going the SSD route once pricing comes down, and capacity goes up

I agree SSD is nice and snappy - my iPad is superfast, and instant - but to instal a "large" one in a laptop is too expensive....for now

I would love SSD but agree that at the moment the performance versus price model does not work.

Matte or glossy screen?

Tell me about it. I just had a squint at the prices on Prophecy and the cheapest 512gb ssd is something like r14k.

Nope, the 17 inchers all have 1920x1200 ... (choice between glossy or matte, though)
The std screen on the 15" is 1440x900 (matte as option, I think??) ... and then you have the choice to go for a 1680x1050 (glossy or matte)

Damn... I am thinking of going for the 13 inch MacBook Air (with 256GB SSD, 4GB RAM) and then get an 24 inch monitor, cordless keyboard and mouse... The problem is, the whole setup will cost me R25k and up...
Is it really worth it?
Can one play PS3 on the 24 inch mac screens?

You wanna buy an Apple screen? Those guys are pricey. They also don't have HDMI input, only mini displayport. The Macbook Air is probably worth it though.

I see that now... those screens are so nice, but without HDMI there is no point... Would love to hook my PS3 up to it also.
What other screens are really nice?
