Theres currently no standard so you must get the right ones for your TV. Even with the same vendor e.g. Samsung there are differences, 2010 TVs use the SG30XX IR ones, while the 2011 TV's use the SG31XX bluetooth ones.

This was one of the reasons I wanted a TV that worked with the Cinema glasses. My worry is what would happen if they decided to discontinue the version of whatever active glasses I may need because its older?
 
Hi Guys I am going to buy this Tv tomorrow game has it for R7699 just need a answer yes or no is it worth it for the price I mean you cant get a 3D LED for that price. Please advise should I buy it or not

If you got the cash, go for it. If you have a bit more cash, DionWired is selling the 47" for R10,000. That's R3k off the normal price apparently.

Was initially opting for a plasma but based on all the feedback relating to the reflection - my lounge is definitely not suited.

Opted for a Samsung 46" LED because my PC monitor is Samsung LCD - which is fantastic...
Lets hope Dion Wired will agree to match the price from Foto Discount World...

But remember with their glossier screens, LED backlit LCDs are also a helluva lot more reflective than CCFL backlit LCDs which used to mainly use matt finishes.

And remember, they are both LCDs...

True. However, I have a very unsuitable viewing environment (think full width full height french doors facing the TV, opening out onto a patio with a pool and light-coloured walls) and the LED is perfectly usable. Plasma would not be, based on the amount of reflection on the glossy surrounds of the TV.

At least entry plasma with no AR coating. ;) But yes I fully agree.

It just seems like, based on what Moolz79 has told us about their environment, they might be worrying too much about reflection. Very different to your environment.
 
My 'B' Series LCD is glossy ... It doesn't effect me, but I wouldn't want any more glossy :/

Depends, they are not all the same, different vendors use different filter technology. There are some LEDs that are just as bad as a glass screen plasma with little to no filtering, while others are almost identical to LCDs since they use the same matt filters. Having checked out most, my preference was for Samsung's proprietary UltraClear filtering.

If I compare my std matt C530 LCD to my D6000 LED, the LED is less reflective by brightness, however its doesn't diffuse the reflected image. So the relfection of say a window shows a brighter fuzzy blob of light on the LCD, while on the LED it clearer but less bright.

Depends on whether you deem the quality/effect of 2D->3D conversion to be 3D content, and worth the effort.

Personally, unless its professionally authored 3D content e.g. something like Avatar 3D, I'd rather prefer it in sharp, vivid 1080p 2D.
 
I bought the LG tv and its awsome really enjoying only thing is how do i turn of the true motion option

Intelligent sensor is on, the 3D is quite something so far.
The upscaling is beyond amazing, still not sure what PP was talking about regarding dark or light rooms as I have tried both and its amazing either way, I think the TV is a little big for my room.

Thanks for all your comments and updates about this TV marine1. It is very much appreciated.

As a Samsung fan (same as you) I was a bit skeptical about buying a LG TV. Since you are saying that the picture quality and the 2D to 3D upscaling is great I'm going to purchase the TV (42" 3D LED at Game for R7699) tomorrow. Also, the 42" suits my needs perfectly and only costs R1000 more than a 40" 3D less Samsung 5 Series LED TV. This is definitely one special I will not miss out on.

I will report back tomorrow. :)
