My New Study

You lot are in luck, after sleeping on it, I will keep this thread active with updates when and as they happen.

I will more than likely duplicate this thread on a new forum when I find a more permanent home to be active on again.

Just to drag this thread out of the depths for a short period...

I've just placed the order for some of my networking kit.

I will be placing the networking equipment and servers into a 12U Wallmount box, with all the relevant cablemanagement stuff etc.

My biggest holdup atm, is that I need to wait for my plans to be approved before I can do the large(ish) building job of installing the sliding door. Its kind of holding up the whole project because I can't chase walls, or paint, or lay the flooring until the basic structure of the room is complete.

Right... now I'm getting frustrated.

I placed an order with Scoop, and it now turns out that they won't deliver a 12U wall cabinet to Durban.. something to do with their Courier (odd I know).

Been hunting around, and I can't seem to find a supplier who has a wallbox that can support the same weight as the LinkBasic one that Scoop sells, and who will deliver to Durban.
Anyone have any ideas?

Shot for that :)

Also found Datanet... just trying to get a price out of them....

Miro are a bit on the pricey side unfortunately.

Just pick it up when you go up for the Birthday Bash...

Hell I want to be completing my study by then, not just starting...

I'm just waiting for a response from Scoop on an issue or two, but Datanet actually have good prices, and their kit is reasonably priced as well.

Just go to Datanet, they're behind Umgeni road next to that Game building.

I think the 8U they're selling might be something we specced to them in the past but my memory is foggy.

It looks like I will be doing so.... and getting a 15U rather than a 12U...

Don't you find it irritating to look into a bright area if you are working on a monitor. e.g. sitting behind the screen facing the window.

Bookmarked.

I used Visio to do all my space planning when I created my study.

BTW, I put down laminate as well - affordable - and am quite happy with it.

Good move to put in the 2m door- I put in too small a window and how it's too late to change.

Good luck

I will put pictures when the stuff comes and as I make progress.. don't worry... :)

As for the looking into a bright area if I'm working, I actually kind of enjoy it, I like working in bright areas, I'm not a coder who wants to sit in the darkness and work.

I just have to wait for the Building Inspector to make contact before I can put in the sliding door now... Building plans submitted, so don't want to jeopardise that process.

It's actually better for your eyes having decent 'backlight' when staring at a screen for many hours.

Right, have managed to source a 15U cabinet... its sitting in my car atm... that was a mission in and of itself, i expected the thing to come flatpacked so I didn't bring my bakkie to work today...

Low and behold, Datanet give me the thing ready assembled, so it was a mission and a half to get into the car. Will take a few photos this evening when I get home.

99% of people would be severely pissed off if the cabinet came unassembled :D

Ready assembled would have made my life MUCH easier :D.... then I could at least have fit it into the car properly.

eh no. 99% of the people will be pissed off regardless...

Flatpacked -> 99% pissed
Assembled -> 99% pissed

Because the one is useful for transporting it the other is useful for not having to assemble it.
