Figured this would probably be the best place to start this.. :)

I'm in the process of building a new study for myself. Here is the first set of photos of the progress. I've had a worker in for 2 days so far to get it back down to a completely bare shell in preparation for chasing and new electrical points.

Here is what it started out as when I bought the house, so I take no responsibility for the horrible red on the wall.

And this is the room as it is today. Where the window is will be getting a nice big sliding door. I will be putting down new flooring (possibly laminate).

I cringe whenever someone says laminate, personally I just don't like it. I have a vision of building a nice study/man cave in my house one day ( in a flat at the mo ) but it harks more to the wood panel library ethos. Even got a use for those old encyclopedias by turning them into a bar cabinet :D

I'm not entirely a fan of laminate either, but real wood floors are just ridiculously expensive. I am still hunting around for the flooring I will use, but laminate is an option atm purely due to the look.

Don't post such big pictures, don't want to use all my cap in one go.

What about parque? Ignore my spelling soz.

You're looking at R500+ per sqm for the stuff.. not installed.. I would love parque, because it would bring an old school touch to a room which is going to be thoroughly modern when I'm finished with it, but its just too expensive.

Laminate can look very good. I say go with that and put down a sweet carpet over it to sound deaden.

Personally I would go for carpet.

I've just ripped all the tiles up. I don't really like tiles in anything but a kitchen or bathroom tbh... they're too cold for my liking.

I will more than likely be going with laminate and a carpet.... i dislike all carpet just because i have a dog, and wall to wall carpets are just dirt traps.

I do like that idea alf, if I could remove an entire wall and make it all glass I would.. but space and budget is limited so a 2m sliding door will have to do....

My study will also be kitted to be the central point for all my technology in the house. DSTV, xbox, PS3, Apple TV, servers etc will all be located in a server cabinet and distributed from there out. Haven't quite decided if I'm going to locate the amp in the cabinet as well, but I might.

I love this, will be following your progress closely and already auto subscribed as i reply :D.

Good Luck :)

Cork flooring absorbs sound, clean, soft to walk on and eco friendly. Or bamboo. You don't want synthetic stuff in a study.

All boils down to cost pretty much.... the study is just the start of my project really, the rest of the house is getting gutted slowly but surely and being redone completely. I am toying with the idea of having the same flooring throughout, or having transitions... Just not sure yet.

I will try and put up a few ideas in terms of layout in the next few days, and if I get brave I might even do a render or two.. not 100% sure if I can do a render of what I want just yet.

Eish, some pearlers in that thread Ook..

My house has some pearlers, but they're mostly just lazy workmanship which I will fix over time.

And yes, this is the only place it logically made sense to put it since it will be my PC and Gadgets home :)
