MyADSL Issues

I think the chances of rpm selling out and letting telkom dominate this site are about as good as george bush and bob mugabe saying "oops. Perhaps we were wrong..."

Correct. rpm selling out isnt even within the realm of possibilities. Anyone who suggests or hints at that is a troll.

Telkom is actively ripping off this country and MyADSL is going to perpetuate it? Isn't the r6 billion rand profit they made last year at the expense of the country including the members of this forum enough?

I am going to actively start blocking all ads from the site the second I see the first one.

How sick they are...

OOOH look at us , we are the great Telkom , all things are now just fine between us and the MINORITY ADSL abusers at myadsl.co.za

We are even paying for the sites up keep by advertising generously on their site.

VAKKING sick man - kick them in the jewels.

Let them keep their stolen money , I for one would not want to see them here.

Hi folks

Thanks for the feedback.

As some members suggested ‘selling out’ or even just softening our stance a little bit is out of the question. The advertising is used to fund MyADSL and has no influence on what we say or do. The reason why we have accepted Telkom’s booking is to remain objective and unbiased. It is dangerous to start singling out (‘blacklisting’) certain companies in our quest to improve Broadband. Currently Telkom is indeed a serious problem in improving broadband in South Africa, but things might change (I guess it is possible :D). This is also closely related to getting a Telkom representative on the forum…

Having said this you guys will have to say what you want and do not want. How about a ‘trial period’ after which we will assess the feeling towards the forum representative and/or advertising?

Just to keep you informed regarding the advertising slot: Telkom has booked a slot and then sent through a few forms to be filled in. This is not the way we do things and some of these forms required what can be considered personal and private information. We told them that they ‘must be joking’ (Cara used a term like this) and either do it our way or go somewhere else… The saga continues.

AntiThesis: Absolutely! What makes this place even tougher for companies that do not play open cards is that its members decide on our course of action…not easy to fool them all :D

Your feedback will be great and will govern our decision.

Regards,

RPM

New Thread coming up:

What Bull in the Telkom ad.... hehehe!

I don't mind Telkom advertising, as long as there is sufficient other advetisers as well.

I love the idea of a page where the advertisers are listed.

I have purchased from advertisers on this site.

I don't care if RPM get stinking rich from this site - he does deserve it. To be honest, I'm sure the more money this site makes for RPM, the harder he will fight for the purpose! So, up the rates according to the rules of supply and demand!

Hi guys

Just a short note to let you know that we have frozen the Telkom advertising until you have given feedback.

How do I feel about Telkom advertising?

Bad idea.

Why would Telkom want to advertise here?

This is defined as ‘good question’ as there is no good reason for Telkom to directly support a group so openly antagonistic to them, so there must be a hidden agenda.

The fact that a sentient human being would find it extremely difficult to find or understand such a reason is of no importance. In their twisted megalomaniacal mind they will have found something they think will give them some sort of advantage. Telkom has NEVER shown itself to be a benevolent organization.

Why do you want Telkom to advertise here?

You’ve stated that you do not need money to run the site. So why do you consider supporting the very thing we are all against – surely you do not believe that by being seen as a lekker, fair sort of nice guy you will score any Brownie points with them and that they will suddenly start listening to reason? That ain’t never gonna happen.

I reckon that Telkom gets an enormous amount of free advertising from this site. There are many business persons who seriously believe that there is no such thing as bad advertising, so whether comment about Telkom is positive or negative, it is free advertising.

I also reckon that the various Telkom sites get an enormous amount of clicks arising from this site. How many times have you gone to a Telkom site to verify on something said here?

If you do allow Telkom to advertise here.

The only contract that exists is yours. Any piece of paper emanating from Telkom will include small print between the paper particles.

This contract clearly specifies that you have sole rights as to acceptability of content. Content deemed as untruthful whether by omission or inclusion will not be shown on the site. No refund will be applicable for withdrawn content. No reasons will be given for withdrawing content.

The contract clearly specifies that no reference may be made in any form or any place, other that a cashbook entry, to the fact that Telkom has advertised on the site. Why? Well, I would expect to see Telkom shouting about how democratic and nice they are and then referencing the money they spend here as a good example of this philanthropic attitude. The follow up to this would be the claim that they are helping to keep this poor misguided site alive.

Get a really good lawyer to draw up the contract. Suggest the guy who handled Hellkom.

I don't care if Telkom advertises on the site, I will click on their ads, go to the page it leads me to, and analyse what they say in excruciating detail, and then I will come back to MyADSL and state what is true, and what is not.

Either that or I can configure my browser to allow all ads from MyADSL except the Telkom ads so rpm please can you make the Telkom ads filenames to start with "robbery"? thx.

lol @ the MaD one

mmmm...telkom trying to pick up business on myadsl has to be as close to the definition of "absolutely pointless" as i can think of....waste of *their* money...ican just see their ad at the top of a page with a sticky below it discussing what a load of bollox it is

not sure how the ad revenue model is set up - if it is pay per click then bring it on...i am sure the honourable members will pursue any pay per click advertising from telkom with enthusiasm, vigour and determination

Agreed.

Let Telkom advertise - provided they keep to the MyADSL rules and does not force MyADSL to change the rules by requiring lots of pointless information.

Has anybody recently ordered a TelkomSA ADSL package? Do they still ask the specs of your PC? Even when you tell them they have no right to the information?

After 30 years in the market I have learn . You deal with crooks they will find a way to trick you and don't think that you will always be clever to catch them. Telkom expertise is manipulation. They will find a way to make the community pay much more then the cost of an ad.

Crooks usually strike once instead of monthly.

It is a serial abuser of its client base...a repeat offender. Kinda like a daddy that rapes its kids on a regular basis.

Simple answer , NO.

These are the same turn-coats that twists your findings to make themselves look good....

Only when the forums objectives have been met.

Akin the the way the deliberately screwed the ISP's by allowing with agreement and NDA's the 30 gig cap's to now use the same issue as excuse to penalise the incumbent ISP's and the abusers, US! I won't trust them with their own telephone pole, I think they have a plan to abuse this new so called cooperation to show the nation their good will and carry on to do what they do best. DEFRAUDING AND CHEATING THE BROADBAND CONSUMER AND SOUTH AFRICA

As has been noted before, the objectivity of the forum must be preserved, otherwise we would lose a lot of credibility. Telkom can easily write a press report stating that the forum is simply out to get it, with no other agenda in mind.

Would you allow the SNO to advertise here? If we bar Telkom from doing so, simply because they are Telkom, then we should do the same to the SNO, otherwise we are simply victimizing them.

Of course, Telkom, on the other hand, would have to play with the same rules as every other advertiser here. If they are judged by the same cirteria, and doesn't make the grade (signing the same contracts as everyone else, not forcing the forum to give them preferential treatment, etc), then they should be rejected out of hand as an advertiser.
