Hi All

Just ran the first test using the supplied software (for those that are participating in the testing). Every single ping test failed, to all destinations. I realise the timeout criteria may be low, but still, every single one? Has anyone else had similar results?

The results from my actual speed test were not too bad, all things considered. Will be interesting to see the result at the end of the day across the different services though.

Thats me

All my ping test comes out like this:

Test 1: Ping times to UK servers

Ideally, you should get a result of around 50 ms (lower is better)

gnu.teleglobe.net: This test failed due to a server timeout or other error.
swansea.ac.uk: This test failed due to a server timeout or other error.
bbc.co.uk: This test failed due to a server timeout or other error.

Too many server errors occurred therefore this test is inconclusive.

Looking at the graphical report, i think it's a setting somewhere [maybe uses your supplied "advertised" connection speed. I.e. the ping bar shows something like "50ms" in the middle as ideal, that implies to me that the max is
like 100ms ....and everything over that would timeout. [and if i'm not mistaken we never get anything below 500ms ?]
My download test works, but gives this :P

Test 5: Download speeds from European servers

Ideally, you should get a result of around 384 Kb/s (higher is better)

heanet.ie: 110 Kb/s

This result shows serious problems with your downloads, and should be investigated.

Ok, changing advertised speeds of service only result in different server-list being download for pinging purposes, but all the ping test still fail.

I can however ping the same servers myself [using ping] without a problem.

The tracert wlso fails because the towers dont show an IP etc.

Tracing route to ftp.is.co.za [196.4.160.12]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 371 ms 422 ms 528 ms 10.15.128.1 (tower???)
2 * * * Request timed out. (tower)
3 * * * Request timed out. (tower)
4 * * * Request timed out. (tower)
5 * * * Request timed out. (tower)
6 458 ms 470 ms 489 ms ftp.is.co.za [196.4.160.12]

Trace complete.

I was told that the towers do not show an IP. yet on my tracert It seems the tower close to me is showing an ip. ???

I also understood, the towers don't have IP addresses. I've got no idea what that first IP is. The latency seem to indicate something close to the APN.

When I do a tracert, I don't get that first entry, just the final destination.

Can you reproduce this trace? If so, I'll pass it along for comment.

Anyone else getting a routing table like this?

It looks like it's the terminating point on the GGSN, basically at the Internet APN.

Funny thing is, I don't get the entry for 10.15.128.1 when I do a tracert from a DOS box on XP, just a timeout.

Hi RabbidDod

Only the URL thanks. Too much work to enter all the data from all the testers :D
