He's implying Kevin, whose articles sometimes leave something to be desired, which is strange since sometimes he writes quite good/witty articles.

Yea, i like Mickey and some of the other mods. Their roles seem to be overlapping with the likes of Kevin etc.

Why does Kevin get to decide what is regarded as clickbait? He can simply send infractions to anybody he has an issue with or for any reason.

It is an abuse of authority and conflict of interest.

Here's a question to you in ignorance: If you are that unhappy with things and you feel the forum don't allow you the necessary space to vent and spew, and you're accruing infractions for it, why hang around?

Just don't click the bait. Prob solved.

You'd think it'd be that simple. Most articles titles easily identifiable as such. That said, the Kevin Makro article may have been clickbait for some. Even though it was fairly lean on content, it was interesting to learn that this Makro delivery channel exists and works. Gives faith in considering them as an alternative to other online stores.

I was given a warning by Kevin when I pointed it out. Seems this new wind blowing in mybb.

I will continue to point out partner content that is not marked as partner content.

Don't think a lot of people wil care if they're banned. MyBB isn't as fun and intuitive as it used to be. I find myself visting the site, less and less. It actually feels like work, scrolling through the "Today's Posts" list.
Even Tapatalk is now removed from my phone.

The quality of comments in Disqus has progressively deteriorated to a point where I no longer read them or comment in them. Personally I see no point in it. Perhaps the only place where Disqus comments have retained some quality is in articles on Tech Central; elsewhere it is equally satisfying as reading a Huisgenoot.

I used to have TC bookmarked somewhere... Maybe in a long-lost browser.

Don't waste your time on Disqus. The forum is where we talk.

In a nutshell they don't want any form of criticism. It is all about the moola.

I had the same issue. I called out a dstv article for being clickbait & received an infraction.

The infraction was for "trolling and/or derailing thread".

The thread was later updated and people who considered it clickbait were told to voice concerns in the clickbait thread.

There is a recurring theme of running ads as "content/articles"

This happened today with the Nissan article, happens a lot with DSTV, Makro and Afrihost.

That clickbait thread is a way to hide all dissatisfaction and criticism from the site.

Oh and don't comment on the quality of journalism, it doesn't go well.

Edit : Jan wrote the article I commented on but Kevin found it necessary to hand out an infraction.

Dare we call it journalism. Look, some articles are well-written, but I get very tired of articles (dare I call them that) that use more whitespace than text. First time hearing about a clickbait thread - thanks for pointing it out. Not liking the idea at all - as you say, "hiding all dissatisfaction"... Nah.

The forums are censored as well. I don't see the point in commenting anymore.

I say, remove the ability to comment on all articles. We are heading in that direction anyway.

Look what happened to News24. Now we must write essays in response to an article. Hell, they even branded it.

I'm also against this new way of censoring the mybb community. The forum\site is totally about profit these days and the community that grew it has very little value.

My post content has gone the same direction though I no longer add to any meaningful discussions.

Very sad to see the direction everything is going in.

My main issue is really about why previous comments for the past 22 days were removed. I mean, who gives anyone the right to do that? Some comments were part of constructive conversation that a reader won't pick up on context-wise, now that they are removed. Utterly careless.

What's that old saying... "all good things come to an end." I've felt this for a while, ever since article quality started deteriorating. There has to be a reason for this, though - wish someone would enlighten us.

That's exactly my issue. The comment policy is so very vague. Calling something clickbait isn't an attack, the way I see it. If I were to go ahead and call someone an idiot for wasting their own time, different story. I think the concept of censorship has become really generalised of late. If I make a comment to say something is clickbait, or any other flaw, for that matter, it should be used as a guide for improvement in the future, even if the comment is not entirely constructive. Regarding the 'article' in question, the author should have seen that the title could be seen as a form of clickbait and, thus, expected a short comment indicative of exactly that.

If MyBB could become South Africa's Gizmodo, that'd be great.

This isn't about being banned - it's about the lack of clarity regarding what happens when you cross a line that hasn't even been specified.

Perhaps Gizmodo was better back in the day (didn't follow them then), but I do enjoy reading some of their stuff today. Point is that we need a site like that here - a little more content per article would go along way. Couple that with improved journalism, and the MyBB news section would become so much better.

I think I'll just skip the news section from now on, and only follow forum boards I'm interested in.

To be honest that Makro article should have been marked as a partner article since it was... Surely being banned for pointing out the truth isn't fair and this days it's a dare do that and see situation.
