You are moving the goal posts by saying people should be "nicer".

It doesn't change the core issue that people are expressing. The clickbait articles are getting out of hand, there are too many adverts masquerading as articles and they are trying to censor any form of criticism(by banishing it to that clickbait thread).

Skye, I recently attended the MyBB digital marketing conference, where one of the MyBB journalists swore hand-on-heart to a room full of marketers that all advertorial content on here is marked as advertorial, and other stuff that they publish (which may or may not relate to existing advertisers) is done so completely independently of the advertorial team and handled by the news team. I believed her.

However, even IF MyBB did think to itself, "Gee, advertiser X has really supported us a lot, let's see if we can give them a story for free that is about them but still has some potential newsworthiness", then I don't see anything wrong with that. It's Business 101: keep your clients happy with some freebies. Again, it's a basic part of the transition away to a more sustainable commercial model on their news pages, and is it really so wrong?

Instead there is a really negative cliche of posters on the MyBB forums who demand negative endings to every story, and who demand their right to give their personal 2c on everything. Unfortunately it's a power-struggle and MyBB is now looking towards turning this into a more positive environment for both its forum members AND its advertisers (i.e. the only people actually paying them money). Do you begrudge them that?

Thor, provocative headlines are a painful part of MyBB's transitioning away from a reliance on forum activity, towards building a wider audience for its news material (which is powered by social sharing and reactions to stories). It's also a learning curve for the MyBB team, but to be fair just judging from where some people throw 'clickbait' around (like on the Makro article) I think the accusers just need to grow up and not click if it riles them so much.

What I've found is that a lot of people here get upset when MyBB posts anything that they personally disagree with, as if it's a personal insult. DSTV is the devil, so what is this positive story about DSTV???? Sanral is the devil, so how dare they post this story quoting somebody from Sanral? A story about what happened at Makro that didn't end negatively? Oooooh, how frustrating and upsetting! Complete sell-outs!
You are misinformed.

So why would the company show an add? You need to stop associating money with worth, in the case of MyBB, the user is the product that they are selling to advertisers. It's a two-way street with users more likely to leave than advertisers.

Really? If MyBB only/largely posted original content, maybe.

You do have an auto-correct built-in, you may use it. The incentivizing forumites to use it is a good idea as they'll consciously click the add.

You're tackling my argument by insulting me? At this point I stop responding to people but before I wish you a good night I'll just leave this here. I speak English, sweetcakes, not American.

You are misinformed.

About what? I have eyes and can see who posts what, and what the prevailing opinions are. God knows I get into enough debates/arguments on here around quaint notions like obeying the speed limit, paying your TV licence and (gasp) paying e-Tolls. We have a LOT of keyboard warriors on here.

Misinformed about the business operations that you mention.

Name one? I dare you.

It's rare, I'd have to dig. There was that one review. I scrolled down to the 7th of March and gave up though, way too many re-posts. Basically when he writes his own own articles they're sometimes good. I'd put it around 3-5 articles in total.

Lol, awesome response from Kevin ^5 Opinions on here definitely are like... you know the rest.

It wasn't a professional way to handle the issue.

It was actually immature and condescending.

He should be taking feedback into account and not writing everybody off as "trolls".

Oh I'm sorry, so only MyBB forum members are allowed to express and defend their opinions? If anything I think that's super refreshing because it shows MyBB staff have personalities and a better-than-average grasp of wit than many critics on here.

EDIT: Hey I'm just getting the jibe from Kevin might be aimed at a specific forum member. Thor, is that the other half of the story you're hinting at?

Are you in love with Kevin?

You seem to have a one dimensional view on things and incapable of being objective. I also think you are seeking attention, so I wont respond any further.

No, you're representing the company, you have the logo as your profile pic. Forum posters do not post as the company, they post representing themselves.
It's the same as if I started going around and insulting everyone while wearing a Makro uniform, it looks bad on Makro that they would hire someone like that.

You really don't understand how the world works. (Quoting your own comment)

When you try and mix two types of media, you are bound to create an explosion. Take CAR magazine and Cartoday Forum. It was not long before there was a "conflict of interest" when forum member's opinions were in contradiction to the policy and opinion of CAR magazine. Cartoday sadly is no more.

Now look at Kevin's post quote above: "Start you own news website" and "Post in the forum". Two types of media that is in direct contradiction to each other. On the one hand you have articles on a news website that is not of the highest quality. This in itself will not attract that much attention. But then these articles are plastered all over the forum, sometimes in three different sections. If you are going to link it in a forum, you are going to get comments and criticism. If the journalistic standard was high, the criticism would be low, But as I challenged Jonathan above, he can not link one KL article of high quality, although he admits there must be maybe 3.

My prediction, if the journalistic standard of KL and BT is not going to get better, the forum will be the one that is going to die a sudden death. MyBB will protect KL and BT, and the only way to do that is to can the forum. Conflict of interest it is called.

I'm sorry to hear that skye, we've all been hanging in here for your next pearl of wisdom. If 'seeking attention' in your book means disagreeing with you, I'm sure you must get frustrated by all the attention-seekers you're surrounded with in your life.

Why're you so shocked? If you cut somebody, do they not bleed? This forum is ALL about freedom of speech and communication, that is the product here. If you're criticising MyBB staff and then simultaneously trying to limit their own freedom of speech on their own medium, then I think you need to open another big tin of Hypocrisy first. Tastes like winning (on the internet).
