MyBroadband User Survey

Hi Nokkie

It is really going to help :D

The immediate advantage will be to inform users what they can expect of their service and tell the providers where there are problems. It will further be able to assist ICASA and the Competition Commission to use this research in decision making and policy development. We can sit back and simply say nothing will change, but a pro-active approach is always better I believe. In short, it gives consumers a voice.

Regards,

RPM

Hey, I just did the Telkom speed test, and I am on Iburst. Now I got 430kb and it is 1:21. I know that it would become around 700-800kb+ later at night.

Is there no way to factor this in? You should at least make mention of it in the report, If people need Iburst for work, it will be worse, but if they are generally working during working hourse and Iburst is ainly for after hours and weekends the speed could almost double.

The other problem with a Iburst or any wireless test, is that some guy who has a terrible connection (like a guy on here who lives on a farm 12km from a BS and it is his only option) could pull down the speeds alot, while someone like gatecrasher will maby even give speeds that are high than most people whould get.. so how do you actually determine what the average user would experience?
Just wondering seing as your last reports all rate Iburst at under 200kb, and I dont really see how you get to these scores. I have a connection with 3 lights and just got 430kb during the day.

OK, I did the first part but the TCPIQ I cancelled, once you download the 775KB file and double click it starts downloading more, the rate at which it was going indicated that it would have been a few meg. At R2.00 per meg I decided screw TCPIQ.

Hey RPM

I did the survey and all the tests that went with that and it all worked fine. I downloaded the tcpIQ App and installed it and it runs. i did the speed test on it and it comes back with no resutls at all, i click on the results page, and the tcpIQ webpage comes up and tells me that there is a problem and a message has been sent off to them to fix it, but it seems like other myadsl users are using it with no problems, so it won't even give me my results url to send off to you guys at the moment, only this error page, have been trying since around 9am this morning

This is the error that comes up: http://www.tcpiq.com/Error.aspx?Err=500

wtf my international ping is sky high :S oh well that is going into test then

I have installed this tester but WHAT amount of data is it transferring and how often. I ran the first test and now it wants to test again in 6 minutes?? I am happy to participate in your survey but Remember we are paying BIG BUCKS for data with Vodacom. Can you get back to me with usage info???

on the apps main screen, you can set the tester to go as many times a day as you would prefer, the default is set to 12, you can make that less if you want, it uses the following amount of data per test: 850 kilobytes download and 400 kilobytes upload so thats around 1.2megs in total, hope that helps

Wanted to do the TCPIQ test, but cannot do so as a Linux user. Even tried to run the xecutable under Wine, but then it complained about Smart.Net or something - I gave up.

my downtime I worked out to be 1.5hrs/month.. due the three times in last yr that the service was down completely, i excluded power outages and came to max 18hrs total for the yr.

I'm trying to fill in the survey .. (VM EDGE) .. having some hiccups..

I can't do the Iburst test.. no Java runtime.. and I'm not installing it either :p - so I'll just skip that section.

Speedtest.net ... not working for me .. I know it needs flash - I have a flash plugin installed.. it comes up with all the graphics (the world map, the speed dial etc.) but there's no button or anything to start the test???  - What to do?

Finally, unfortunately I also can't do the "TCPIQ" test as fortunately ( :D ) I'm on Linux...

Decided to just leave out the things I coudn't do and complete the test...
But when clicking submit I get a whole lot of errors... (similar reported earlier in this thread)

Code:
Warning: Division by zero in /usr/www/users/mydrive/phpsurveyor/index.php on line 381

and about 20 lines repeating:

Code:

Completed the tests (eventually!) got the errors too.... should I do survey again, does it accept with the errors???
Jiskaaik, this friggin HSDPA connection is exercise in frustration again tonite
I got FULL signal but it transfers a few secs, then waits and waits, then trf a few secs....
I heard a rumour that the HS in HSDPA stands for 'high speed' ... ha ha "Djoo laai!" (and to think they charge more for this than 3G!)
Suppose the whole town and their friends are on VC tonite raping the bandwidth :D
...perhaps I should do the test again, deduct some more points

I completed the DSL384 test. A couple questions on the test refered to iBurst though.

When we will get to see the results?

Why are international download speeds so low ( ie. equivalent to dsl512) when I have dsl4096 connection using a shaped connection?

virgin internet

It is once again time for the MyADSL Broadband Survey. It would be greatly appreciated if you could take some time to complete our short broadband survey and possibly conduct a few speed tests on the easy-to-use speed test meter.

As a small token of our appreciation for your participation one lucky participant will win an Apple iPod Shuffle, and there will also be ten MyADSL gift packs up for grabs. But most importantly you will help us to accurately rate South Africa’s broadband services and ensure that we are able to supply accurate results to consumers and organizations like ICASA and the Competition Commission.

To form part of the testing, simply do the following survey and the software based testing in post 2 (if you only want to do one of the two tasks it is definitely still great, but both will be better :D ).

BROADBAND SURVEY

Please select the relevant service from the list below (for the broadband service you are currently using) and complete the short survey regarding your service. You may only complete the survey once, so please ensure that your answers are as accurate as possible.

Hi there, sorry, I tried to do this tests, but as all of us know, gprs is very slow, and with Virgin mobile, even slower than slow. Maybe next time.
