N2 protesters throw petrol bombs at cops

Joelus, when people occupy land that is privately owned then the council can not provide services to it.

Well, it's the responsibility of the DA to find solutions here, just like it's the responsibility of the ANC to find solutions elsewhere in the country, isn't it?

The hooligans on the N2 should be arrested and locked up for breaking the law. These hooligans will never be satisfied because if you give them a toilet they will demand toilet paper to go with it. The likes of Tony from Cosatu and the ANCYL and the ANC in general will use anything in their power to disrupt the DA in this province so they can take over and run it too into the ground.

The ANC and it's partners know that should the police start using rubber bullets we will have another 1976 riot on our hands and the worlds attention will be on the DA run Western Cape and you can bet the word "apartheid" will be in the mix.

You dodged the point of my post to give an explanation of service delivery is. How come then during every single interview the people are complaining about lack of RDP houses, jobs, schools, healthcare? Its all guised as service delivery.

The DA are NOT beyond reproach or criticism. Show me a DA party costing R100m or any of the other wasteful expenditure and I will gladly agree with you.

The DA are doing far more than the ANC have ever done.

I didn't dodge anything - the protests are about lack of service delivery, not about free stuff.

Do you think they are making it up, that actually they do have access to services such as running water, electricity and toilets and are just pretending they don't?

These people dont pay any rates or taxes, what makes you think they will pay for electricity, water and sewerage? I dont get how someone can protest or demand services if they dont pay for it. If the do want to pay, but there is no service, cant they contribute to some fund to make some sort of "deposit" to get things going and showing that they want to pay for it?

The problem starts with the fact that people living in shacks dont pay any form of property rates or taxes, so there is no base to start recovering the cost or budget for these services. Plus, free property means the number of people to service just gets bigger and bigger.
New shacks just pop up every day.

So what do you think people should do? Find somewhere to go and quietly die so they are no longer a nuisance to you?
I guarantee you that most of these people would love to be employed, would love to be able to pay taxes, would love to be property owners. They would love to be in a position where they could afford to pay for services, it's not through choice that they find themselves in dire straights.
Have you ever lived without access to water, electricity or sewage removal? Can you imagine going job hunting when you haven't washed for a week? Have you tried to educate yourself with no electricity available (even if you could afford it)?

It is about free stuff. Its all guised as service delivery but they are asking for free houses that Mandela promised, free water, electricity etc.

For what its worth.. I spend at least three days a week in the townships around Cape Town (I work in Public Health) and have been into shacks and there is water and electricity available. Maybe not in every single home/shack but the underlying infrastructure is there. Would you like photos as evidence? Why don't they just call a plumper or electrician to hook them up? Its because they want it all for free because they can't afford it which brings me to the point of my first post. Just too many people in this country depending on the state, no matter who is in control (that said go and compare any other province to WC and see which is best. No wonder WC has so many refugees.) The only way out is through education and hope in 2 or 3 generations time people actually think about bringing another child into this hell before being impregnated. Not going to happen with a horny donkey president sending the complete wrong messages.

What did they live in before they came here ?

Did they own it, did it have running hot and cold water, electricity, sewage and all the required services ?

Did they protest about it in their area or did they realise nothing would be done and so moved here in the off-chance that the DA would be a softer touch ?

how can pay for something that you dont have??

We want water ,proper roads and eletricity, note we will pay for the services.

There is water and electricity infrastructure in the majority of CT townships. All you need to do is get a artisan to hook you up if you haven't illegally hooked yourself up already.

Roads are as good as any other area. Albeit a lot more dirty and full of burnt tyres.

Then start contributing and negotiate with government. Show that you are willing to make a contribution, instead of protesting, demanding and breaking everything down. Point again, if you dont pay for your house and piece of ground, why would you pay for electricity, roads, toilets?

If everyone in the flats townships pay R100 once off towards a fund then you have a few million to pay for infrastructure. How many people are we talking about here?
