N8 hands on review

Just came back from MTN. Had a nice long chat to one of the few consultants who seems to know what is going on out there!

After long deliberation - I've settled on the N8!!!

He is expecting stock any day now! And I am no 3 to get my phone!!! YEAH!!!

The phone I wanted, the HTC Desire HD, is not even at MTN for testing yet! It is not on their sheet for the coming month either (new specials are released 1 October). That means if I do decide to go for that phone, it will be a long wait. Also, after a few well thought out questions, he deduced that camera capabilities is most important to me - and therefor - TADA - THE NOKIA N8!!!

great, be sure to post your experience when u get it :)

Best I make my way to Vodacom then! :)

My problem is I am currently with MTN but I am afraid I don't think I could bear another two years with them! Dying to see what Vodacom offers.

Not sure who told you that the Nokia N8 will be coming out any day now, but as from what Nokia RSA has stated it will only be coming out from mid October.

This is the best phone in the universe. No doubt.

Symbian^3 may be based on Symbian which is 20 years old, but it still beats any other mobile OS out there - so much for "new" and "fresh" mobile OSes.

Roux, even for you that's a bit obvious trolling. :D

How many other phones with a 680mhz CPU is as snappy as the N8? None - cause symbian is highly optimized.
How many other phones can use USB flash drives ?
Don't get me started on the camera.

This phone is superior to any phone (and most netbooks) out there.

yes, yes the N8 > N82 > Cray Jaguar :)

The N8 is definitely built to exceed the N82 by a long shot. In most cases it does beat the Cray Jaguar (more user friend, more portable, better multimedia) but it might be a tad behind it in terms of brute number crunching ability.

I'm sure that will be sorted with the first N8 firmware update. :p

Unfortunately that will not happen. Only Apple can change their phone's hardware with a firmware updates :

So does this new OS3 change the 2megepixel fixed focus camera on the old phones into 3.2megapixel auto focus cameras ?

Yes, it does substantially increase the picture quality. Have a look on the web for some V2 vs. V3 photos.

HA, and thats not the only one, remember the IP4 'signal loss' problem ws going to be fixed with a software update - for a hardware problem!

Yep, According to Jannie it seems Apple does have a pretty mighty punch with their firmware updates.

But back to the N8 - its better.

you must live in a fail world if you think its better. Its easy to optimize an OS that you built when you are the only ones using it.
If this was an android device then I would be very interested. Was over symbian 5 years ago.
