Holy crap, I can't wait for all the cool **** that'll hit us in the face in a few years. Apparently the new Dual Core mobile chips to be released next year and can push as much as 200 million triangles per second (the PS3 is something like 350 million).
Just think about that for a second... in a few years we're going to pull out our phones and just hook them up (wirelessly, e.g. if intel gets their way with wifi HD) at the office or at work and use that as your gaming/workstation pc.
Just imagine how heated these cellphone brand battles will get then, when the choice between devices is almost as important as choosing a wife ... hehe

I'd bet my left nut that sooner or later someone is going to integrate something like the Xbox Kinect into these things. In fact, from that vid it seems that they're already using some kind of motion detection with the cam.
Those Pico LED projectors are also a great idea... dammit... so much cool stuff happening, so little time and money.

Yeeeessssss Raptor, are u starting to see why we so excited about the N8 yet? :) its bringing some real innovation to the market.
 
Disclaimer/ this is a serious question, I'm not trolling

Not strictly about the N8, rather Symbian. I've downloaded two application in the last few days for my blackberry - both very useful:

Dropbox
Kindle

Both are available for Android, iPhone and Blackberry. Why not Symbian? I was under the impression that Symbian has a fairly large (if not the largest) market share. Is it an American thing, where Symbian is maybe not so prevalent?

It's an American thing. Symbian is virtually non-existant in the states.
 
One does have to wonder where all that crap about further N8 delays came from?

Following a report yesterday on possible delays due to software tweaks, Nokia USA offers the following statement via Twitter:

"We have good news - the Nokia N8 has started shipping today and will be available to all of you in the U.S. soon. We will keep you posted!"

Do you live in the UK? And did you order the Nokia N8 from Nokia’s online store? If you answered yes to both these questions, do a skip and click your heels together because the handsets are now shipping to users in the UK.

Reverse marketing from scared opposition? Crap being spewed out as the truth from ill informed blog owners? Obviously, from responses on this forum, a lot of this crap is being lapped up by the anti Nokia brigade!
 
....and there has been much talk about Ovi store.... seems the naysayers may be eating their words there too!

The Ovi Store was suffering a bit of a crisis at the beginning of the year with its downloads standing still in a moment when all the competitors were taking huge leaps forward. But apparently Nokia managed to put its app distribution service back on the right track as the store is now welcoming 200 000 new members each day.

Other encouraging numbers are the 2.3 million downloads per day and the 70 developers who have already passed the 1 million mark. Nokia has all the lucky fellas listed here, along with the success stories of some.

Ovi Store is nice, and I have installed quite a few apps and games from it - but I don't pay to much attention to it. For me it is more important to have a phone that can install apps from any source. Apps-store locked devices are fake and gay.

If you're after my very early verdict on the Nokia N8, then it's positive, with only a few caveats. If you're a bit of a camera nut like me, then don't hesitate to buy - it's stunning. If you're looking for a more rounded 2010 smartphone then you've got more to take into account - not least the rest of my/our review over the next week or two. And it's worth bearing in mind that a modern smartphone, especially on a new platform, is a complex entity and it'll take us a few weeks of intensive use to deliver a more thorough verdict.

Great to see that proper reviewers understand that you cannot call a phone great after you have had it for one day! And also great to see they are willing to criticise. A breath of fresh air from others who will call a phone great even when it's shortfalls are apparent to all!
 
How unfortunate that those who are so negative about Nokia and keep punting other phones aren't up for some decent debating on the subject... :D

I was just reading an article on Ovi Store and the strategy going forward and found it very promising and exciting. QT developer platform. $10,000,000 prize money for developers. In app billing. Operator billing where you can have the app cost appear on your bill instead of pay via credit card (available in 27 countries) etc etc.

Then of course we have some comments being made that I fully agree with :

Davis actually carries on in an editorial wondering about Nokia’s strategy and where the current perception of “Nokia is failing” is coming from, and shoots down a lot of the commentary that arose from the review of the prototype that generated the spoiler stories yesterday: “[that review] mockingly described it as a “cosmetic” update, but to some extent that’s exactly what’s needed. Were the N8 running Android or webOS, we’d be drooling uncontrollably; instead, tech bloggers were falling over themselves to decry Nokia’s lack of direction on the basis of a single poor review (and of prototype hardware).” (and with early, pre-release software)

Ha ha I just had to share this bullsh_t. And people swallow this crap hook, line and sinker!

Notice how it starts with others saying they are regular users of those phones whereas the guy has just got his hands on the N8. This is clearly visible at the start of each "test" where the guy with the N8 can clearly be seen searching the home screen for the application needed. We won't even comment on his appalling typing skills! ha ha I found this really humorous.

I did a "side by side" comparison earlier in this thread, or another, with the pros for the N8 and the iPhone. I eagerly awaited some come backs but the room went eerily quiet! ha ha
