N8 hands on review

Android cannot use external flash drives, or process super high quality 12megepixel images, or do dolby out over HDMI. Symbian is (despite being so old) still the best, and now it is in the best hardware.

external flash drives ey? wow what a dealbreaker.
You are saying that the android operating system cannot process a 12mp image? do you have an understanding of what an operating system is? do you have a brain?
Dolby over hdmi? again woot, my last 2 phones could plug into the tv for playback of files and I didnt use it then either.
Your claims as to Symbian being best are completely unfounded, Symbian has high numbers of market penetration based solely on the fact that it was used across the N series and Nokia has always had the largest brand loyalty. Its old dead and even Nokia is going to bury it soon.
The phone doesnt have the best hardware, it might have the best camera but that doesnt count for hardware.

So lets hear your next uninformed comeback...
 
I think too much is made of the processor speed. I've used devices with faster processors, and I can't say I've exactly noticed the benefit. If anything, faster CPUs seem to chew battery power. I think the N8 has improved on the the areas where the N97 was severely lacking and I really hope it is a big success. If anything, at least the emergence of competitors at the top end of the market has resulted in cheaper prices. There's no way we'd be looking at prices of between R5000 and R6000 for this phone a few years ago. Will be interested to see the gsmarena review. At least they tend to offer a balanced perspective on most phones, other than the random fan boy stuff you read from guys who get excited about apple and android without really knowing what they're speaking about.

If you read my post then you would have noticed I mentioned it having the best camera, yes that is all that is better - the camera.
There are a few phones that have faster and more capable CPU's and a few including the iphone4 that have better displays. if you want one phone that beats both the display and the processor then you could use the galaxy S.
2 out 3 the Galaxy s wins.

I wasnt aware though that any Symbian fanbois existed, you quite a fan of beta videomachines too?
 
To compare CPU speeds and their real life application you need to run identical OSes - nothing is as efficient as Symbian so there goes your CPU theory.
Apart from the camera it has USB OTG and HDMI support - something no other phone has. The display might not be as high res as the iPhone4 but you can do a lot more on that display because this device is not as locked in as the iPhone or Android phones

So there you have it - your CPU argument is busted and there really is no phone as capable as the N8.

I've got work to do. I really don't have the time to explain all the ridiculously obvious factors that you've chosen to ignore with a simplistic question like that.
I honestly don't give a flying **** dude, it's just a damn phone. It's the blatant arrogance and dismissiveness from people on the petty subject at hand that pisses me off.
There is no such thing as "the best" when it comes to consumer products like phones, I'm sure you can agree with that.

a 1ghz cpu beat a 650 odd mhz one in every world. What about 3rd party apps, you think they will be as efficient as the OS? what about CPU intense tasks? done any? the bigger proc wins every time.
USB OTC and HDMI, woot, two things real life people dont need or care about.
What is this alot more you speak about with regards to dispalys? now you say an iphone is locked and so its display is bad? hahahahahahaha.

Every argument you make about the N8 is invalid. what makes the phone so super capable as you put it?
 
OK - you have a point. I assume from a user point of view different phones will have different areas of appeal.
If you combine features and value for money along with target audience then I support all phones are equal.

But the N8 is just a little more equal than the rest.

Dude - this phone has been know through out all of time itself to be the best. How else could M.C Hammer have written a song about it back in the 80's? He knew this was gonna be the best phone ever and that you "can't touch this"

Yes, I prefer the fact that it's easier on my Android to download apps that change the basic system functionality if I want to (truth is, I don't even run stuff like that anymore, it's just nice to have the option in case something comes along)
But it's obvious you've never used an iPhone before. As much as I now love Android, there's no denying that the Apple Appstore is still simply the largest most diverse, easy to use and fantastically innovative mobile application repository on the planet.
So if you want to talk about "usability" of available screen real-estate on a phone, the iPhone 4 retina display combined with the AppStore makes HDMI and 12MP cameras look pretty useless to the average consumer (yes I said average, if you need 12MP on a phone, the get the N8, personally though I'd say: BUY A BLOODY CAMERA)

Can't use it as a flash drive, can't send files over bluetooth, can't install apps off the internet, can't copy music to it with out itunes, can't do a lot of other "utter bull****"

...and a netbook to access USB flash drives and a HDMI multimedia player to connect to HDMI displays. Thats great - but how will I put all of this in my pocket?

Oh - wait - I think I know where you're heading at.... we should blend it all into iSmoke and then it will fit my pocket?

Nah - rather get the N8 - much easier and simply better.
 
I wouldn't mind seeing HDMI on all phones when the new dual core chips come out though (and I don't mean HDMI for movies).... bluetooth kb + mouse + dual core phone + HDMI = PC

What kind of person hates on a N8 PC in your pocket? Seriously, if you hate on the N8 then the terrorists win.
 
Does anyone know if the HDMI on the N8 just works when you run videos or photos?
The Galaxy S supports video (SD video which obviously sucks on LCD panels)... but the one thing I do LOVE about it is the fact that the entire phone UI is shown on the video out while working on it...
A cool project would be to create and app that connects a Wii remote to the phone with Buetooth, then run the phone over HDMI onto a large LCD ... and then use an infra red pen on the screen to manipulate the phone UI, just because you CAN :)
