NAG monopoly?

Actually, I would pay R20 for only the CD. The rest is crap. I know exactly where to go for gaming news, reviews and some off-key commentary - the web. Except EDGE, obviously.

I don't get his thread, it starts out with people complaining about one mag sucking and breaks down into print in general sucking. What do you expect from local magazines when only a few thousand people buy them?? international mags like PCFormat UK sell more than the local NAG, PCF, GEAR, FHM and a good few more put together. They have massive staff contigents whereas mags like NAG and PCF are a few tired underpaid journos who must work themselves stupid 'copy and pasting' and generating as much local content as possible. While I compltely agree that no mag should insult their readers, good luck trying to source brand new hardware or software at the same time as international counterparts, this is ZA, you know the drill. 'If you've got broadband you don't need 'em ' said on a forum dedicated to fighting the rediculously high and limiting costs of broadband in the country???

I like all I get on the DVD without having to download the stuff. Also the game trailers and demo's are handy to have. So I still continue to buy the mags now and then.

the one thing that pees me off is the amount of trailers they put on the dvd... rather than just let us look at the game, let us play the darn things and put demo's on!!

I have bought every single nag since its launch, but a couple of months ago I just couldnt justify it anymore. So many pages given to certain people to stroke their egos with their useless garbage rants about gaming, south african gaming etc. The last straw was when I met one of their journalists in a local gaming shop, and the guy bragged about how he copied all the latest test games and gave it to his friends who then helped him review the game because it sucked too bad for him to play.

i also let go of NaG for a while now - it used to be good, but then it turned out rather idiotically as to us 'gods' vs rest of population.

Then again who need crappy reviews and snotty remarks when you can get all those online for free :P

got into the whole filplanet/ign founders thing - but it has it's bandwidth needs.

currently only mag i religiously buy is ImagineFX :)

I can't stand the guy, so I'd be wasting my time, I think some of the other dudes will check it though ;)

Yes, NAG sucks balls!
I was forced to buy it cause they managed to secure a special deal with ANET (developer of Guild Wars, GOD knows how they got it right in the first place.... ) to publish a special key in the mag for a certain month.
Well, I ended up buying the mag JUST for the key... and low and behold, the key wasn't in it!!! ... but simply a little note in a corner, on one of the preview pages of the next Guild Wars they were covering, saying "Please check next month's magazine for the special key"...
I had to buy the following month's mag for the key as well!!!

WTF?! I was not impressed. Exploitation ftl.

Tossers.

I will never buy NAG or any SA pc magazine ever.

bah...old reviews and demos.

That's why we got the internets.

Start an online gaming and forum, where there's hardware, software and any other kind of reviews, stuff mags.
It will be cheaper, and then simply have advertising, hell, get magazines to advertise.

possibly make it so that you get different testers for games, and those testers are voluntary, and they get a free game or get some thing for there review, thats it...

I mean, i would kill for an opportunity like that, and some know my ps3 review, which was good to say the least...

Come now, It's not that hard if you think about it,
