NAG Online forums shutting down

Forum closures seem to be rampant nowadays. The only reasons that I can come up with are to remove an unnecessary bandwidth hog and having no or having too little moderation support. Yes, these discussion boards can die out and an idle discussion board is not liked by the 'positive' crawlers.

I have Discord integrated with a discussion board, also by leveraging Slack. Don't see why they couldn't do it too?

Forums are dying, its all over the world seen to be the case.
A lot of stuff is on Discord, and the problem I have with that is, it doesn't keep the woke millenials out like this forum does to a larger extent.

message boards are pretty much on their way to becoming obsolete, between Twitter, Reddit, youtube, Instagram there are just so many more immersive ways to communicate with like-minded people.

The only reason I like this board is that it is local, it has excellent Friday threads and you can constantly moan about the government in a relaxed and easy-going atmosphere.

I find those platforms to be abhorrent, so I guess if this forum goes away I will have to then fade into silence. Reddit is a festering toilet... Twatter is a sewer..

Discord is an instant messaging and voice board. Forums are more versatile, you can achieve a lot more by combining their strengths than to do away with the one or the other. I guess the execution and sustainability may be too hard to achieve.

The cross integration I have done is still in it’s testing phase and it is something coming since 2012 :whistling: I see it as channels serving one and the other.

Forums will always exist in one way or another. It's to the sites benefit that the forum remain open as the search traffic it brings is huge.

Mybroadband is a great example of this, I'm sure a good chunk of their search traffic hits the forums directly. You don't really get that on Twitter or Facebook in the way you can on a forum.

As for discord, no thanks!
