Name and Shame: Unauthorised Debit Orders Thread

Unfortunately, the banks are technically not doing anything wrong, they are acting on the instruction of third parties that manage debit order authorisations on behalf of merchants.
Technically, yes. However, they are acting on unlawful instructions.

They cannot 'ignore' the penalty. If they cannot produce the mandate (proof of voice recording or signature) they will get fined by Prasa. Question is if they will 'feel' it - lots of people dont report it. So if more people report it then it can make a difference
If they are a legitimate company, then perhaps the fine will be effective. However, they are most likely not, and they will simply ignore it, create a new entity and repeat process. Think of it as E-tolls and the non-payment by motorists.

Point I'm trying to make is that they will lose R1000 for each person reporting it when it is found that there is no proof of a mandate. They will obviously try start a new company and try repeat the process but if people are more educated and report it more then it will start making a dent in their illegal income

Pasa has started 'debicheck' - read more here: https://www.debicheck.co.za/pages/yourQuestions.html

Problem is it is not compulsary for companies to use it YET.

Yes, but they will only lose R1000 if they pay the fine, which they wont.

There is ways to make them pay the fine. Just like people reverse the D/Os via the bank even though it has gone through pasa has a way of getting the money

+1
Then you also get people reversing legitimate debit orders to improve their own cashflow.

I have requested detailed information regarding the offenders from Capitec (29/10/2018), and have received nothing so far.

So no point in contacting your bank, rather contact pasa for the mandate proof. If you have contacted pasa already just remember they get high volume complaints and it might take a while

Yoh guys I had a small heart attack now. I was just placing an order on Amazon and as I pressed the button to confirm payment, an email about this thread popped into Thunderbird. Imagine how I felt just seeing the blurb spring into view from the side of my screen "Unauthorized Debit..." o_O Man I nearly crap my pants. :crying:
:ROFL::ROFL:

I got the same debit order deducted this morning 2 Nov 2018 of my account. Refer screenshot attached. Reported to my bank. They said have to complete a debit order reversal form and stop payment form and send back. And they reporting it to fraud team for investigation.

Complete a form? which bank is this? If they are like my bank, they are going to charge you R55 which wont help you when those skelms change details and come back again. I have never had the same company deduct twice from my account so all those stop order froms are useless in my opinion, it is SLZ this month, SINGHCC next month, just like that. The common trend in all of this is that the contact number for these companies are all 031 numbers.

I'm with ABSA and there is an option on internet banking under payment options to reverse a debit order. So no need for forms etc.

Not sure about other banks but think someone mentioned earlier in this thread using their FNB app to do the same.

I just can't believe that people are still required to fill forms, it usually reversed on the app or a call sorts it out, as much as this is irritating I have found dealing with STD bank to be a breeze.

ACB DEBIT:EXTERNAL UPS NCONNUPS15 -R99. Got the same SMS just now and googled it.

Same thing UPS NCONNUPS15 for R99.
Phoned the ABSA fraud hotline and apparently they are getting a lot of queries about this particular debit order.
It allegedly comes from umvuzo payment solutions and that their number is 011 483 1188.
They also said that they cant do anything about debit orders, and that i have to phone general inquiries tomorrow morning to reverse it, and then go to the branch to open a 'CCP' customer complaint case or something like that.

On hold with the fraud hotline now. Sigh. So its pointless

Guys read here if you haven't yet:
https://mybroadband.co.za/news/bank...for-debit-order-chancers-in-south-africa.html

If you have had an unauthorized debit order send an email to debit order abuse at PASA at [email protected] with the description of the debit order on your bank statement e.g. UPS NCONNUPS in this case.

Let's give them as many R1000 fines as we can. Spread the word....
