Nandos quality deteriorating?

Hows Calistos? lots of former owners opening those

enjoyed my chicken from one of their stores. But doesn't seem like many other people do. Its the quietest store in a line of food outlets.

We got a full nandos chicken last night.

Portions were absolutely tiny.

It used to be able to feed 4 people, now two people were left hungry at the end.

The "Sharing" chips is also not on ridiculously expensive, but also minute in comparison.

Really a shame what has happened to them.

I use to own a couple franchise of grilled chicken, won't say the name of the brand. A typical bird should be 1-1.2 kg, so I had to weigh every bird head office sent us, if it goes below 1kg it gets rather small.

Problem is most stores are manager run, owner don't step in the stores, don't care what size the birds are.

90% of grilled chicken places now, oven there birds in a steam oven, then finish them off on the grill for 6-7 minutes. Can't compare to a bird that's been fully flame grilled. You get a rubbery taste and often allot of marinade washes off from the steam.

yeah steaming the chicken quickens the process ..and nandos is well famous for they sauces

these days those quarters are like 100-150g probably

very small pieces

i had it twice, didnt like the sauce as much

there was a flame grilled placed in parow CPT, called moparks which had good chicken

now days i like tikka chicken on the fire or fried chicken

grilled isnt that good anymore

Lol, a pigeon costs more than R15.

Have to say though, nandos is about the size of a pigeon

a freakin cockatiel costs R300...and its much smaller. LOL
the problem is the shareholders at the top milks it. Everyone has it harder, their bottom line goes up because of costs, and they still want their profit margins and returns. Maybe we need a new quality chicken place offering simiar to Nandoes/Chicken licken and KFC(how anyone eats this crap is beyond me anyway). The problem with franchises is they need to pay for that. And its a lot of money. ANd you need to add that to the costs. You can get much better at other seprate owned restaurants and coffee shops.

When he questioned the size of the chips, both the franchise manager and waiter confirmed that it was correct.

He felt cheated and frustrated, especially considering the fact that he knows that potatoes cost R8 per KG. Comparing to Nando’s chips prices and portions, he believed they were charge R100 per KG for their chips.

The post on their official Facebook page received over 5000 reactions, 3713 shares and 2000 comments. This number continues to rise.

Many other dissatisfied Nando’s customers also made their bad experiences and concerns known in the comments section.

I fully support any criticism of Nando's chips. The portions are ridiculously small and there's no easy way to increase their size with meals. I do love the actual chips though, and I've only ever had superb (hot) chicken from them. And their medium sauce tastes amazing.

The Nando's medium sauce sold in supermarkets is very nice, but I wish it was exactly the same as the one used at Nando's.

Nandos has gone to the dawgs. Their prices are crazy, flavour has depleted and tasteless.

In general chicken all over has gone to the dawgs. Even chicken off the shelf tastes like brine water.

Here in Durban there is an "Africas" chicken place that opened at the local garage. 2 burgers for R40. Full chicken, 4 rolls and large chips for R99 and quarter chicken chips and roll for R35. The flavour is similar to Nandos but better imo. This is my go to if we are lazy to cook. I haven't been near Nandos since this place opened.
They operate out of the garage shop with just a shop counter and kitchen in the back, which I'm sure keeps costs down. A couple benches outside.
This place is always busy. There is a Steers, Fishaways and Kolei Chicken in the same complex that see very little business.

I went to Pedros and they are obviously attempting to recreate the Nandos experience for about 25% cheaper. Everything from the serviette holders on the tables to the flavour of the chicken is a Nandos recreation. The sauce isn't quite right though. Still good chicken.
