Nasa: Sun will 'flip upside down' within weeks

The end! Its neigh! Actually... I'm not sure if this is good or bad? Surely its not a bad thing?

Wonder what effect this will have on my eisbein spit? This is indeed worrying, we need to focus here folk, will the eisbein still rotate in the correct direction.... Oh! Here is a snap of the eisbeins that I created two days ago whilst in a drunken stupor.....

That will happen when the earths poles flip (geomagnetic reversal). This happens about every 250 000 years.

Wait, what? You think the Earths spin reverses when it's magnetic polarity flips?

Imagine how scary it would be waiting for the earth to grind to a halt and slowly start spinning the other way. Would make for some spectacular sunsets though.

So what if the sun turns upside down? The heat and radiation will still be the same. There are not any visual clues on the sun to determine whether it is right way up or not

Earlier post about sun rising in the west. Somebody said it would only happen if the poles flipped.

Still makes absolutely no sense, as I discuss what happens with a magnetic reversal here:

Well its magnetic poles will flip. This happens every 11 years. The actually sun does not flip, just its magentic poles.

How did we go from that to, "You think the Earths spin reverses when it's magnetic polarity flips?"

Earlier post about sun rising in the west. Somebody said it would only happen if the poles flipped.

If the magnetic poles flipped then east / west would flip. Its obvious. You don't need the Earth's rotation to change direction which I think Nick was suggesting.

The swap could however cause intergalactic weather fronts such as geomagnetic storms, which can interfere with satellites and cause radio blackouts.

**** there's goes DSTV again.

I hope we can learn something from it. We are still pretty clueless on Solar Flares. I wonder if this event might contribute.
