My mother is looking for a TV box that can download all of the following:
Disney Plus
Netflix
Amazon Prime
Showmax 2.0.
Because her Hisense does not support Disney Plus or Showmax 2.0
Any suggestions? Because we don't have a clue what to look for.

Way too expensive. I bet the Xiaomi box does exactly the same thing for a fraction of the price.
The Xiaomi box will also become slow and outdated after 2-3 years forcing you to spend another R1.3k to upgrade it. Meanwhile the R2.5k Apple box will happily chug along due to the fast mobile soc in there and get updates for 10 years.

Exactly, Apple lasts a lifetime while android requires you to purchase a new product every year. In the long run the Apple TV will be cheaper.

What about the Ematic?

What about the Ematic?

the ematic has been superceded by the Netogy Nova and also the Mi box S 2nd gen - both of which are newer and play more formats and codecs, and generally will do more that having newer faster SOCs will allow you to do - they also have more features now - though the Mi Box just doesn't have the ethernet port and has one less USB and lags behind in the storage department ..... but it still allows for playback of more stuff than the Ematic - and where it lacks behind it allows for alternative functionality ie you can happily use Wi-Fi and it works perfectly well and both the USB and ethernet port issues can be sorted out with a USB hub with a built in ethernet port which you can get from takealot (if you desperately need those .... but most don't)

Don't get me wrong - the Ematic is brilliant for what it is but the Nova and Mi Box are now in most peoples estimation higher up the list because of the newer hardware and software too - so if you already have an ematic no need to rush out and replace it BUT if buying new and not having any other Android box - just get the newest ones with the most features and capability for your money and that currently is the Mi Box S gen 2 and the Netogy Nova

as for the guys with the technology shift arguments - well why would you keep on sticking to obsolete equipment - technology shifts happen so often nowadays IMHO i am going the opposite way to you - i would rather spend less on the most up-to-date thing now and in two to three years when a tech shift happens then spend again to get a newer thing that handles the tech better instead of struggling along with an older unit that while built well enough and very durable will struggle to do the new functionality because it doesn't have a chip or graphics fast enough for the tech changes - so i'm planning to spend R1k to R1.5k every two to three years and just getting stuff that is more universally used and likely to allow for far more apps and hence wider usage than something that relies so much on a proprietary closed in internal infrastructure like Apple
