Need a suggestion for a TV Box or Android Box.

I have had all 3 of the 'budget' Android Streaming boxes:

1. Ematic AGT-419
Now outdated by newer models - it did have both wi-fi & an Ethernet port - as well as 2 x USB2.0 ports & an SD card slot, & a SPDIF optical audio port.

2. Xiaomi Mi Box 2 (2nd Gen)
It has the latest Google TV OS, but only has 8GB of internal storage, no SD card slot and no Ethernet port - and getting it to recognise & play content on a USB flash drive is WAY more difficult (if not impossible), compared to the Ematic.

3. Netogy Nova
This is the one I currently have - Although it has the older Android TV OS (v11) -it has double the internal storage when compared to the Mi Box 2 (16GB vs 8GB), has an Ethernet port and 2 x USB2.0 ports, & a SD card slot

So your choice boils down to ease of use - if there is no requirement for external connections & you are just going to connect it to a TV & wi-fi for streaming content, then go for the Xiaomi Mi Box 2 (2nd Gen) - if you need external connections (Ethernet, SD card or USB2.0), then go for the Netogy Nova... ;)

About 5 years. Hardly a deal breaker.

My 2019 Shield TV Pro, is older than a year, and is still better than any thing Apple has produced before or since, sorry for you Fan Booi's. :laugh:

No thanks I don't replace my TV every year. Also what technological shifts on a streaming box? The last one was AV1 and only Youtube and Netflix supports it still.

Will you be subscribing to all of those services? Because that's gonna be around R500 per month, you do realize that?

I am fortunate, it is your ass, the opertating system version is not an issue, the software available is more diverse, a wider choice, less limitations. Besides I am not someone who chases change for the sake of change. So am not chasing change like Apple fans do, due to them needing to play "catchup"

I bought all my devices here, locally, starting with a Telkom LIT Box, Mi-Box 3, Fire TV 4K stick, Fire TV 4K MAX stick, Xiaomi Mi 4K TV Stick, Shield TV Pro last but not least a Xiaomi Mi-Box S 2nd Generation.

So not sure where you live, but yeah. :)

Yes, officially - all devices are supported by the sellers and agents, for what ever that is worth in this world, and especially in this country.

All are out of warranty, with the exception of the Mi-Box S 2nd Generation.

Nvidia also have a very good reputation for supporting their devices, even their 2015 Shield devices.
