K straight to the point, i want to get a 384kbps adsl line by telkom, i want to self install it. I just moved into a new house, and i have not got the telephone line connected, i think it might be a adsl line but not sure. First question, how do i find out my telephone number without connectin it, or if it is a adsl line, how do i activate it. So bascly it is a old home owners line that i gave no info on pls help, i can open it and check cables and stuff.

If there's only cables but no account from telkom then there is no number allocated to it, not yet. They will allocate the number when you apply for and get the line.

K so to get it right i go to telkom and get a number somehow, then i convert it to a 384kbps. Ps. Is the adsl self install hard

Ask the neighbors if they have adsl, if they have it surely you will be able to get it. And Self install is pretty simple. Need 1 filter per telephone, adsl modem with your account settings and then you need to verify/activate your line on Telkom's site.

You need to activate your phone line before you can activate your ADSL line. Phone telkom and they should send a technician within the next week (if you're lucky). I had to wait 5 days. Once they've enabled your phone line and it's ADSL capable, all you have to do is plug in your dsl cable to the necessary port and start up your router. There's no point in checking the cables because the ADSL line is basically your phone line that telkom has just enabled ADSL on, it's all one thing. Call them and give them your physical address and ask them to activate ADSL on your phone line.

K tnx for all the help but how much do u think this will all cost, i just want a 384kb line and i tryyyy to avoid contracts, ps i dont have a registered telephone line

Not possible bro. You NEED a telephone line to have an ADSL line, this isn't Europe lol ;D (at least if you're with telkom).

Quite right. Minimum payment (going straight to Telkom and not including specials) is about R285 per month for analogue line and ADSL (R133 + R152 respectively). Then you pay additional for whatever ISP package you want.

why not apply for telkom's free 3 months promotion? that way you only pay the r133 a month and you get 3 months to decide if ADSL is really what you want
