Hi,

We've been with MWEB for a very long time and have our main email account with them.
We're now thinking of changing to a different ISP and we are concerned that we will not be able to send and receive emails on the MWEB account when we are connected to our new ISP.

I have considered using MWEB's web-based email application, but we would like to use Microsoft Outlook instead.
I have also considered forwarding all the emails that are received by our old MWEB account to a new email, but I'm not sure if we can send emails using this method to make it appear as if we sent the emails on our old MWEB account.

Is there any direct way of receiving and sending from our old MWEB account whilst we are connected to our new ISP?

Also we are not cancelling our MWEB account, we are merely downgrading it to a 1Gb account. So the email will still be active.

Many thanks!

Make the switch, forward all the mweb emails to you new NON ISP email address. (Get a domain name for co.za and get your own email address) Start promoting your new email address which should be independent of your ISP.

I have run an iafrica email account via MWeb (who took over iafrica) even though my ISP is WebAfrica.

Not a problem.

It may pay you to consider registering your own domain etc. and (over time) moving your email to your own domain. Then changing ISPs becomes a snap.

As mentioned / implied before, the ISP gets you onto the 'net and from there you go wherever your mail is.... I use GMail onto Outlook and we also have a email account hosted in the US that is accessed directly through another Outlook.

One watchout is that you may have to change your SMTP server setting for outbound mail on the MWEB account, as you get into the whole relay host problem.

It is waaay better to get your own domain and not be tied to any particular ISP.

Hi There,
You do not mention if you are a private user or a company. If the latter then getting your own domain is a great idea. The name of the domain adds to your image and corporate branding. It also positions you as an organisation that is not running on a shoe string and a gmail account.

^ What Tim said.

Obviously if it's just personal, then you just go with Gmail/Outlook/Whatever you prefer.
