Need help,oh so badly! Media Pc Remote Control?

Ok, so I built my mini media pc, and currently running a combination of xbmc,vlc winamp and media player on it (depending on the mood I'm in really). Now the next logical step for me is to get a remote for the monster (really anything with a semi programmable interface whould do at this stage) but I dont seem to be able to find anything down that line!
I do have an xbox controller with the whole usb wireless thingy,so what I'm wondering is wether I'll be able to use an xbox remote with my pc since I have this? Or is there a way that I can user my controller for more than just gaming?
 
You can look into the microsoft range of media remotes.

I heard that xbmc does not play well with remotes, you could look into mediaportal where it does work.
 
Good luck finding a MCE remote in SA that's actually in stock with the IR reciever...

Look at NGremote..
 
darn i had a mce remote and i sold it, what a bad move. i just bight have to go steal it back.
 
Can't you use one of the USB mc remotes that Sahara and co. sell? They come with an IR receiver, etc.

Its actually my old gaming rig, just with soundblaster x-fi titanium souncard in it, has an 8800gtx, 2.5 ghz core2duo, 2gigs of ram,750gig hard drives...I'm still shopping for (and saving up for) my 42" LCD, but till that comes around I'm still using my secondary 22' asus lcd and its still runs good ol xp (didnt get round to installing 7 on the thing yet, and also still shopping around for a media pc case (you know the type that will fit in with the rest of the home entertainment system). My sound setup consists of a 7.1 yamaha tuner with two b&w speakers (quality over quantity at this stage, and I got them for a good price from my brother in law). so the whole setup really at this stage is just a slap togethered system, but slowly but surely upgrading it as the cash rolls in
 
I can put you into contact with a person who builds multimedia systems for..well...very well off individuals. I worked for him for a coupe of months. He uses bluetooth ms mouse \kb and remote. Works great. Pricey though

haha thanks for the offer, but half the fun for me about building the Media center pc, is actually fun building it, thought about getting a wireless keyboard and mouse (not bluetooth though, thats just not worth the price in my opinion) but dont want a mouse or keyboard lying around in my lounge unless I reeeallly have no other choice (have one of them neat to the extreme girlfriends)....but does anyone maybe know what kind of HD tv i can get for under 35k?
 
Have a look at the range of Logitech remote units. They are programmable and have LCD on them, etc, etc. Can get pricey. I've always seem them around, but never owned or needed one, so do your google homework and see what you think.

Also, Cooler Master, of all people, offer a "media kit". I don't get this one on any local pricelists, but have a look here at what I'm talking about:

Once you've got the remote hardware, try Eventghost to control the programs.

Still adding more functionality to my setup every day using it (like switching modes according to which app is focused, press and hold overrides to open/close DVD and power off everything + TV)... Remote + Eventghost + internet + FF = lazy sunday morning breakfast while reading the news online

Pity, if you had another wireless reciver, your xbox controller should communicate just fine. I have a logitech wireless k/b and my xbox controller utilises that.
Maybe you should search for a 2nd hand wireless receiver. Test it 1st just in case.
Alternatively, since you searching for a htpc case, maybe consider one with a built-in receiver and perhaps that can suffice.

Also off-topic, in the event you didn't know, if you have an optical-out on your sound card and an optical-in on your Yamaha, use that as your link. You should experience your best sound quality that way.

do have the receiver, but I need to unplug and replug the receiver, and if i do get another receiver then I'll need to pair it with device I want to use at the time...but already budgeted for another receiver and controller for the coming month..because the xbox controller is just such an awesome remote!
