Hi Guys

Im out of my depth here so need some help :)

We use the 8ta 10 gigs package at home, but it is being abused by certain members of the household and I thought that perhaps a captive portal/hotspot setup would sort this out.

Each person would get a username/password login with x amount of data allocated to that account for the month and this would allow everybody to use their pc/laptop/phone with that single account.

I had an old linux folder laying around with ipcop and some addons so I thought that I would give that a try along with the TCAR addon, but support for this ended ages ago and TCAR only allows you to input a maximum download amount, nothing about upload or a combined maximum data usage field.

Can anybody suggest options going forward?

I've not personally used it, but when I did some research into it, m0n0wall seemed to look like the best option. Read this for information on the captive portal.

So with monowall's "per user bandwidth restriction" is it possible to limit users by total data sent and received or can it only throttle speed based on IP?

Thanks for the replies guys, I see untangle's bandwidth control allows for "user quota's".

EDIT: Dof question but does the standard package include bandwidth control?
