need help with internet randomly hanging

I have internet for anything from 30mins - 10hours and it will randomly stop working.

I called Cybersmart and they say nothing is wrong on there side. I noticed that I don't loose my ip address, it just gives me an error "Connection timeout" whenever I try to visit a page. Downloads stop and skype disconnect.

What seems to be strange is that when this happens the pcs in the network can't see each other, making me wonder if it's not a router problem. I have tried a new router even a different brand and it still happens. I restart the router and it works again for some time.

If CS won't crap their pants I can make a test with my free afrihost account, but I will rather not try it because of their "You may not use another ISP besides us" crap

there is your problem, you live insanely far from dslam, you need be asked to move to a closer one, to get a better connection

I live 1.5km from the DSLAM. I don't think there is a closer one and I doubt that another filter will make a difference. Thanks for the info. Maybe I should call telkom again. This will be the 7th time in 2 months.

yeah that value is really insane high , to get any decent adsl connection
