Hi there...

I am planning to build my very first PC and would like some comments on whether or not this build is good for a budget gaming PC.

I would also like to know if all these parts will be compatible with each other.

Specs:
CPU-> AMD Athlon II X3 AM3 Triple-Core 445 3.1GHz

MOBO-> Gigabyte MA74GMT-S2 AM3 Dual-Channel DDR3 PCI-E 2.0

RAM-> Kingston Hyper-X KHX8500D2/2G , 2G/2048mb , ddr2-1066 ( pc2-8500 ) , CL5 , 5-5-5-15 , 2.3v , with heatsink - 240pin - lifetime warranty

GPU-> Gigabyte ATi Radeon Graphics Card HD5670 - 1GB 128Bit GDDR5 - PCI-E

HDD-> Seagate ST3500418AS Barracuda 7200.12 500GB S-ATA2

DVD DRIVE-> Liteon 24 Speed DVD Super All-Write

PSU-> Gigabyte ODIN 470W

CASE-> Gigabyte X9 ATX Desktop Case

If this build is not effective or can be improved please comment... (R4500 budget :o )

Thanks allot.

You need DDR3 RAM for that motherboard.
I'd also get a Corsair CX400 PSU instead of the Odin.

Yeah. Check the ram. Must be ddr3 and get another psu. Everything else looks hundreds. A tri core is minimum for gaming these days.

Thanks allot i'll have a look at the Corsair CX400... and ddr3 RAM xD

Okay cool... its just that im going to run xp and i dont know if it will work :S ( i heard max is 4gb memory including graphics card) ?

I don't know why you want that expensive memory modules when this would suffice:
http://www.prophecy.co.za/mushkin-9...lowvoltage-dual-channel-ddr31333-p-85469.html @ R670.32

Update:
Windows XP will only allow you to use up to 3.25GB of RAM.

Also remember that Windows XP supports only up to DirectX 9, where as Windows 7 has DirectX 11.
I would strongly suggest that you get a copy of Windows 7 x64, but if you have a retail copy of Windows XP, then you should be able to live with that for a while.

I would just get the cheapest 512MB HD5670 available: http://www.prophecy.co.za/sapphire-radeon-hd5670-512mb-gddr5-128bit-pcie-p-71954.html @ R1026

I have a Club3D HD5670 512MB in my PC at the office.
The HD 5670 isn't really a graphics card intended for gaming, but you can play games with it if you're really desperate.

If you want to play games with an OK framerate, then don't get anything less than the HD 5770 1GB if you want to play at 1920x1080 (full HD).

Remember I have a R4500 budget and i have a 1440x900 (19") monitor....

1 x Mushkin 996768 Silverline 2x2GB Low-Voltage Dual Channel Kit DDR3-1333 1.5v
1 x Corsair CX400W , Eps12V , ATX 12V V2.2 - 400w ( 12v : 360w ) , 80
1 x Seagate ST3500418AS Barracuda 500GB SATA2 7200rpm
1 x AMD Athlon II X3 AM3 Triple-Core 445 3.1GHz
1 x Gigabyte GA-M68MT-D3 AM3 Dual-Channel DDR3 PCI-E 2.0 *
1 x Samsung SH-S223C 22x SATA Internal DVD Writer
1 x Asus EAH5670/DI/1GD5 ATI Radeon HD5670 1GB GDDR5 128-bit PCI-E 2.1
1 x Gigabyte X9 ATX Chassis - Black - Side Vented Panel - 4x 5.25"
Total: R4431.21

* Note: this motherboard has only 2GHz HyperTransport and not 5.2GHz like the better motherboards.

From all the cheap motherboards, the http://www.prophecy.co.za/biostar-a780l3g-motherboard-am3am2-ddr3-uatx-760gsb710-p-86192.html seems like the best one (feature wise), but I have no idea how reliable those BIOSTAR motherboards are.

Will this biostar mobo be compatible with all the parts? if it is then i will surely take a look at it :)

Thanks allot for your help.

IMO: if you want a gaming PC, you should either buy a R2k worth graphics card (GTX 460 / HD 6850) or go home.
The HD 5670 is fine for light gaming / old games OR if you don't mind low framerates.

The HD 5770 is still very good value for money, but it won't fit in your R4500 budget.

The CX400W PSU should be able to run any of the cards I mentioned above, but you'll need a molex to 6-pin adapter for the HD 6850 & GTX 460, but it usually comes with the cards.

OK...

I've decided to build my PC without the graphics card for now... and ask father Christmas for a good card :D

Any tips I should know before building my first PC?

Thanks allot for your input I really appreciate it!
